What are Adopt Joy™ adoption events?
Adopt Joy™ events are our monthly national adoption events which add more in-store opportunities to drive dog adoptions, as well as opportunities for adoption partners to earn 2-for-1 adoption rewards and be eligible for a year-end partner bonus.
What are the dates for the Adopt Joy™ adoption events?
The Adopt Joy™ events will take place on the following dates:
- February 21, 2026
- March 28, 2026*
- April 25, 2026
- May 23, 2026
- June 27, 2026
- July 25, 2026*
- August 22, 2026
- September 26, 2026
- October 24, 2026*
- December 5, 2026
- January 16, 2027
*Indicates an event that coincides with a National Adoption Week Saturday.
How do I know if my organization is eligible for Canada K9 Rewards?
All PetSmart Charities of Canada Adoption Partners that are in good standing can participate in Canada K9 Rewards. Your store must also register for Adopt Joy™ events to receive marketing support for your event.
How do 2-for-1 adoption rewards work?
Each dog adoption completed in AME during an Adopt Joy™ event will count as two (2) toward your organization’s total yearly adoptions. See the rewards tiers here.
How can I tell if I’m on track to receive the year-end bonus?
If your organization participates in at least eight (8) of the 11 Adopt Joy events in 2026, AND completes at least two dog adoptions at each event, you will automatically earn a year-end bonus of $2,500.
How can I check how many events I have participated in that qualify for the year-end bonus?
You can utilize AME reporting to see if you've completed at least two dog adoptions at each Adopt Joy™ event. If you complete at least two dog adoptions at an Adopt Joy™ event in a month, that month will count as one of the eight (8) events you need to qualify for the Year-end Bonus.
What if my PetSmart store doesn't want to host adoption events?
If your PetSmart store needs a little extra push to start hosting adoption events, we encourage you to reach out to your assigned Adoption Grant Manager, found here, to discuss how we can help them become an adoption event host.
My organization is new to dog adoption events, where can I go to learn more to set our team up for success?

Do I have to participate in or complete adoptions during all of the monthly Adopt Joy™ adoption events to earn the year-end bonus?
No, you do not have to participate in or complete adoptions during every month to earn the year-end bonus of $2,500. Your organization must participate in at least eight (8) of the events in 2026 and complete two dog adoptions at each event to earn the year-end bonus.
Do adoptions during Adopt Joy™ event dates that fall during National Adoption Weeks still receive 2-for-1 rewards and count toward my Year-end Bonus?
Yes, all Adopt Joy™ event dates count toward the minimum of eight (8) events needed to earn the year-end bonus, even when they fall during National Adoption Weeks – as long as at least two dog adoptions occur on those dates. Your organization will also earn 2-for-1 Adoption Rewards during all Adopt Joy™ events and National Adoption Weeks. You can read more about the normal adoption rewards tiers here.
Can I only bring dogs to the monthly Adopt Joy™ adoption events?
No, all pets are welcome! However, Canada K9 Rewards – like 2 for 1 adoptions and eligibility for the year-end bonus – only apply to dog adoptions.
Where can I find my dog adoption total?
All adoption reports can be found in AME.
How will I receive my year-end bonus?
Year-end bonuses will be paid out by January 31, 2027. Groups needing to update their ACH information can contact us at adoptions@petsmartcharities.org.
AME
I did adoptions outside of Adoptions Made Easy (AME), do those count?
No, all adoptions conducted at a PetSmart store must be entered in AME at the time of the adoption and the adoption release form must be signed by the adopter.
I don't see all our adoptions in AME reporting, what should I do?
Some adoptions may still be "in process." Review your "in process" adoptions under the Adoptions tab in AME first. If your adoptions are not there, you can contact us at adoptions@petsmartcharities.org to discuss what may be going wrong. Please note any corrections cannot be backdated, therefore whatever is in AME will be part of the rewards calculation.
