Meet Pascalie, an adorable (and she knows it) 3 month old German Shepherd X. Pascalie is a large breed dog and although she is currently 20lbs, you can expect her to be between 40-70lbs when fully grown. Pascalie, or Calie as we call her, is a darling, highly energetic puppy looking to find her perfect forever family. Pascalie came to her foster family home at 8 weeks old. She was dumped in a park with her brother, suffering from Parvo. Thanks to caring citizens and animal control they were rescued, vetted, and saved before making her way into foster care. She now has a bright future ahead of her. Pascalie has a soft, black puppy coat with tan booties and expressive eyebrows (you can’t miss them). While we don’t know what Pascalie is mixed with, the German Shepherd breed is notorious for shedding and requires regular brushing to manage the fur. You should expect to deal with hair on clothing, furniture…and lots of vacuuming. Pascalie has not let having Parvo slow her down. Now that she is recovered, she has had her age appropriate vaccines, and a clean bill of health from the vet and is living her best puppy life. Anyone interested in Pascalie needs to live within one hour of Cambridge, Ont as she must be returned to our vet later on to be spayed. She will be adopted out on a contract that stipulates this, and it is mandatory. This is covered in the adoption fee. Pascalie is a great choice if you’re looking for an energetic, athletic, and friendly dog. She wants to be friends with everyone and will sit and stare at them until they notice her. She fully expects that everyone will fall for her adorableness, want to pet her, and take her home. Pascalie is also very interested in other dogs but we have limited her interaction with dogs we know are up to date on vaccines. She is a very busy pup and loves to play with toys, chew on bones, and play tug. Pascalie is working on how to calm down and relax by resting in her crate. If Pascalie was left to her own devices, she would play and have the zoomies all.day.long. To set her up for success, it is important to monitor her down time or she will become overstimulated and act out. She loves anything she can get her mouth on so constant eyes on her, consistent “ah ahs”, and rewarding with treats and praise are necessary. We are continuing to work on her nipping phase and she has shown improvement, especially if she is properly rested. She is very smart and has learned “sit”, “down”, “wait” (for food), “crate” and “off”. Due to her puppy mouthing and jumping tendencies, Pascalie, will be good with older children (over 8yrs) who’s family have experience with large dogs. It is imperative that Pascalie attend obedience school, to continue working on her basic commands, build confidence, and learn to be around other dogs. She is extremely food motivated and thrives on positive reinforcement so she should be a straight A student. She is going to be too big and strong of an adult dog not to be trained and socialized properly. We are looking for a family for her that is committed to advanced training and will take her beyond the basic level. We are working on house training and Pascalie has done pretty well, with only 2 accidents in the home in 2 weeks. She currently goes for potty breaks every 3-4 hours during the day and only needs one break during the night. She has recently been able to hold for 5 hours overnight. Regular outside breaks are necessary as she hasn’t learned to signal that she needs to go. Pascalie, is crate trained and may only fuss for a few minutes. Again, her adoptive family will have to keep up with using the crate to avoid accidents, insure she is getting proper rest, and not doing all things unwatched puppies love to do. Remember with puppies in a new home, they have to get use to new routines, so it is not unusual for accidents to happen for the first while. A puppy needs 100% supervision when not in their crates so any accidents in the home are going to be human error. Puppies are a lot of work and anyone interested in Pascalie needs to have the time and schedule for her needs. Pascalie’s ideal home would be a detached or semi detached home with a fenced yard for her to run and play. She would also be fine in a home without a fence. Just know that you have to take her out on a leash for her potty breaks, multiple times a day, including overnight for the next little bit. The fenced yard is not to make up for walks…she will still need 2-3 per day. Pascalie’s foster home has a medium size, active 3 year old dog. They play well together outside the home. Inside the home, Pascalie loves to jump and nip so any other dog in the home must be good natured, patient, and willing to let Pascalie know when enough is enough. Having another acitve dog in the home to be a role model for her, and to walk/hike/run (when old enough), and play with would be great but not mandatory if her people are committed to her exercise, socialization, training and have the time to focus on a puppy. If there is another dog in the home it will need to be a male dog that is playful and tolerant of puppy energy. Daily work is needed on her physical and mental exercise. Currently, Pascalie is walked 3x a day for 15-20 minutes and that will need to be increased as she gets older. She also gets play time with toys, whether it’s chasing a ball, playing tug, or throwing her squeaky toys to pounce on them…she loves a good squeaky toy for 10-15 minutes every few hours. Pascalie also loves her puzzle bowl for meals, frozen kongs, and homemade enrichment toys, like kibble hidden in a towel. Time is also spent on training her basic commands. Her adoptive family will need to understand that this is a commitment and dedicate time for this throughout the day to set her up for success. Other than our dog, Pascalie has not had much opportunity to socialize with other dogs. The couple that she has met, she is very confident and playful. Her people need to have the time for her and be able to pay attention to her and exercise her. She is going to be an energetic and athletic adult dog so her people need to be active, outdoorsy types able to physically manage her adult dog exercise needs. She will be a dog that will want to be out all year long for runs, walks, hikes, you name it. This is an all season, all weather type dog. For busy outdoorsy types, this is the dog for you! Pascalie is a good puppy, but a puppy none the less and puppies are tiring and need constant support while they grow and navigate the world. Overall Pascalie is the epitome of what you would expect of a Shepherd X puppy. She is non-stop fun, athletic, and smart. She is going to make an active family VERY happy and will be a great addition to anyone who has a lot of time, energy, and love to give.
