My story

**IF THIS LISTING IS STILL POSTED THIS DOG IS STILL AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION. NO NEED TO EMAIL ASKING IF THE DOG IS AVAILABLE. PLEASE READ THROUGH THIS BIO THOROUGHLY AS INFORMATION ON HOW TO APPLY IS CONTAINED IN THIS LISTING** For Adoption: Tobin! Please read our dog bios carefully to be sure that the dog you are applying for suits your family and lifestyle. We at PDR believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process. To apply for adoption and for more information on our process and requirements, visit our website at https://pounddog.ca/adoption-info/. This cutie is Tobin and he is a canine athlete in a small, fluffy, adorable package! Tobin was found as a stray who wasn’t claimed by his family, but you’d never why by his refined tastes! He is a fun and happy dog!! Despite his humble beginnings, this 7.5-month-old Havanese cross has transitioned into a high-energy adventurer who knows exactly what he wants out of life. He is 13lbs with another pound or so when he fills out to his mature frame. He is looking for a "forever pack" that can keep up with his pace and are looking for an adventure buddy. Although cute and fluffy and small, Tobin isn't a "lap dog"—he’s an athlete and very energetic and capable of great feats. He requires vigorous activity every single day, whether that is runs, hiking, fast paced long walks, agility work etc. A simple walk around the block won’t cut it for this pup. He needs fast paced, long walks and runs. His ideal family would be one who enjoy and actively participate in dogs sports, like agility or similar. He requires his people to be physically fit, active and outdoorsy people that are looking for a little canine athlete to join in their excursions. Tobin is a world-class jumper who can easily clear a 4ft (1M) fence. He is also a professional "door-dasher." In Tobin’s mind, the world outside is a giant playground, so his new family will need a 6ft fence and a solid plan for managing doors to keep him safe. He would also be fine in a home without a fenced yard where he is taken out on leash for potty breaks and gets his exercise needs met with runs and walks as described. He is not suited to be tied in the yard though. A fenced yard would be ideal for him for potty breaks and for playing ball but is not an alternative to exercising him… he needs to get out and about and burn off puppy energy. He is house-trained and loves frequent trips into the backyard to stretch his legs. Tobin is a social butterfly and would do really well with children over the age of 7 but only if the adults in the home are super vigilant about doors and gates being shut immediately and having a barrier between the home and the front door so the dog can’t run out. Tobin is a superstar in his kennel overnight, especially when his people are nearby. He thrives on structure and does best when he has a solid, consistent nighttime bedtime routine to help him settle. He is still working on his "daytime crating" manners and can bark when left during the day. He wont be ideal for attached living due to this. He prefers to be where the action is, so he’ll need continued training in this area. In the car, he gets a bit restless on the way to adventures because he’s ready to play and excited about where he is going. However, after his adventure, (he has done up to a 10km hike!), he’s usually a dream on the ride home! You might expect a former stray to eat anything, but Tobin is actually a very picky eater! He will sometimes turn his nose up at the food put in front of him, so his new family will need to be patient and not give in to imploring eyes. It is important that his new family fully understands that he must eat his quality dog food and adding in people food is setting him up for bad eating habits. He is being fed a top quality diet and this is what he needs to be healthy and fit. Tobin gets along well with other dogs and enjoys their company. Another playful dog in the home would be nice for him but not mandatory. If there isnt another dog in the home he would need his family to have suitable dog play dates for him to keep up his socialization. He has not been exposed to cats at this time. If Tobin had a wish list for his forever family it would look like this: a backyard with 6ft secure fencing, a bustling, large family environment, another active dog to play with, a family willing to get him into agility training; he has the hops for it and would love the mental challenge, a family committed to his continued training, bedtime routine, and doorway manners, but mostly someone to love him and cuddle him and tell him over and over what a good boy he is Are you Tobin's perfect match? If you want a hiking buddy who will keep you fit and keep you on your toes, Tobin is your guy. He is a loyal, fun-loving pup who just needs a family as adventurous as he is!
