My story

Currently in Ottawa!!! Meet Rusty – Looking for His Forever Home! Rusty is a 2-year-old, 15kg neutered male English Setter/Spaniel mix with a heart full of love. His Story Rusty was rescued from a high-risk shelter where he was on the euthanasia list. When found, he was wearing a yellow collar, suggesting he had spent much of his life tied up outside rather than in a loving home. Despite his past, Rusty’s spirit is bright, and he is ready for a fresh start. Personality Rusty is incredibly affectionate—not just with people he knows, but also with strangers. He happily approaches for pets and cuddles, and even enjoys belly rubs once he feels comfortable. He’s currently living with children (ages 11 and 12) and does wonderfully with them. Other Dogs & Animals Rusty is curious and polite with dogs of all sizes. While he may seem unsure at first, he quickly joins in play and gets along well with calm companions. He prefers to avoid overly energetic dogs but remains gentle and non-confrontational even when others are reactive. He hasn’t been tested with cats, but he does show strong interest/reactivity in squirrels and rabbits. Energy & Lifestyle Rusty has a high energy level and would thrive with an active family who enjoys hiking, running, or outdoor adventures. After exercise, he knows how to settle down and relax quietly indoors. Rusty needs to be near people. His favourite place is with his head resting on a lap. Training & Habits • Comfortable on leash, though still learning polite walking (he loves to sniff and explore, pulls his leash towards to where he wants to go). • No food guarding toward people or dogs. • Quiet and calm in a kennel (up to 3 hours). • Rarely barks. • Extremely smart, playful, food-motivated, and eager to learn-he’ll thrive with continued training. Rusty loves being close to people, often resting his head on a lap for comfort. He is the perfect mix of active, gentle, and affectionate—ready to bring joy to a family who will love him endlessly.  If you’re looking for a loyal companion for life’s adventures (and snuggles afterward), Rusty may be the one for you! Please submit your application today through our website. You can also see his post on our Facebook(Link to Post) or Instagram(Link to Post) ##2417755##

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Rusty, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
