Meet Tsunami: the 4-month-old Great Pyrenees puppy named after a natural disaster, and frankly, that tracks. Not because she’s destructive, but because she will flood your personal space with love, cuddles, and an emotional neediness that would make a clingy ex jealous. Prepare to have zero alone time ever again. Going to the bathroom? Tsunami’s coming. Making a snack? She’ll be supervising—just in case cheese “accidentally” falls. Thinking of standing still for more than three seconds? Congratulations, you’re now a pillow. She’s not one for subtlety—if you have a foot, she’s laying on it. If you have a lap, she’s aiming for it, size and logic be damned. She's basically your own fluffy shadow. Tsunami is one of 14 (yes, fourteen) puppies from our Natural Disaster litter who rolled into rescue after someone got in way over their head with dogs. Thankfully, with the help of a local shelter and a few heroic fosters, we were able to welcome this tidal wave of fluff into our fluffy butt family. When Tsunami first arrived, she had a lot of feelings about the big dogs. But after she realized they were friends and not foe, and she was handing out puppy kisses like she’d never doubted a soul in her life. By the time she met the foster parents’ dog, she didn’t even bark. Growth, people. Emotional development. We love to see it. She hasn’t met any cats yet, but she has met a tortoise—and while she was a bit cautious at first (because who isn’t a little confused by a moving rock?), she warmed up quickly and made a new slow-paced bestie. When it comes to kids, Tsunami absolutely nailed it. She met four human puppies (ages 6 to 10) and was calm, gentle, and completely delighted to soak up the attention. No jumping, no zoomie chaos, just happy tail wags and careful snuggles like she knew tiny hands need extra care. She’d be a fantastic companion for a family—especially one with kids who are ready to spoil her with love (and maybe the occasional snack). And new people? Tsunami comes in with grace and charm, giving off sweet “I’m a good girl, I promise” vibes. She’s calm and reserved at first, like she’s reading the room. But once she decides you’re her person? She’ll light up and jump up in classic "notice me!" fashion, eager to be your #1 girl. Tsunami clocks in at a solid 6 out of 10 on the energy scale—which means she’s the perfect blend of “let’s go on a mild adventure” and “let’s not get carried away, I just had breakfast.” Think golden retriever mixed with a sleepy sloth who accidentally drank half a latte. She’s happy to rally for your latest outing if you’re into that kind of thing, but also perfectly content flopping next to you like a warm, fluffy footstool who occasionally sprints off to play like she’s just remembered she’s still a puppy. Her vibe? Equal parts needy and independent. Tsunami lives for attention and has fully committed to the “I must touch you at all times” lifestyle—usually by laying on your foot like a weighted blanket with fur. But then, just when you think you’ve got her figured out, she’s off leading the yard parade like the unofficial mayor of Puppy Town. She’s mastered the ancient art of clingy-but-make-it-balanced. Tsunami might not be built for apartment life unless your neighbors are exceptionally understanding or share her enthusiasm for community updates. But in a home with a yard and people who appreciate a good cuddle-and-commentary combo? She’ll be the best storm you’ve ever weathered. Now, before you fall head over heels for this fuzzy foot-warmer and emotional support shadow, let’s talk real life. Tsunami is still a puppy—which means she comes with all the fine print that people tend to skim over in the excitement of adopting a living teddy bear. Potty training? We’re working on it. She’s getting the hang of it, but if you stray off schedule.....If your vibe is “accidents happen, we clean them and move on,” great! If your vibe is “I expect perfection immediately,” well…you might want to keep scrolling. Leash training? Picture a noodle with opinions. She’s figuring it out, but right now, walks are more interpretive dance than structured stroll. Socialization? She’s off to a great start but still needs positive experiences to keep her blossoming into the confident queen she’s meant to be. She’s sweet, but like any young dog, she needs exposure to the world so she doesn’t think the mailman is an alien invader. Now let’s address the puppy proofing. If your idea of home decor includes fragile vases at puppy level, open trash cans, dangling cords, or shoes you actually like—you may not be emotionally prepared for Tsunami. She’s not a destroyer, and in fact has yet to chew anything up, but she is a curious baby land cloud who’s learning what’s edible and what’s just part of the scenery. She needs a home that understands that if she chews something up, it’s probably your fault for putting it in her mouth’s zip code. If you’ve ever looked at your life and thought, “You know what’s missing? A dog that loves to cuddle, is calm enough to just chill with us, but also playful enough to still have fun, and will be the most amazing family dog"—then wow, do we have the pup for you. But here’s the catch: you can’t just clap your hands and summon her like some magical fluffy wish. You’ll need to fill out an adoption application at https://www.pyrpawsandfluffytailsrescue.com/adoption-app like a responsible adult, and—brace yourself—you have to actually come get her. That’s right, Tsunami is currently accepting suitors in Hutchinson, Kansas, and no, she does not deliver.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Tsunami, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
