My story

MEET DIAMOND! They say diamonds are forever and we think it won't take long for this sweet gal to be forever in your heart. Diamond is a 10-year-old pittie mix who was surrendered to Philly's open admission shelter by her longtime owner who, heartbreakingly, believed it unlikely anyone would want her. Little do they know, she's exactly our type! Diamond was surrendered with a number of mammary tumors and required two surgeries to remove them all. We're happy to report that biopsies showed that her tumors were all benign and she now has a clean bill of health. She has also lost close to 20 lbs of unnecessary weight (now down to around 65lbs.), can move easier, is feeling great, and is shining bright in every way! We like to think that Diamond's personality boils down to the four C's: 1) Companionship: she's a total sweetheart who lives for belly rubs, nose scritches, and human interaction. She's great about meeting new people. She’s adorable, affectionate, and the ideal partner for lazy days, long naps, and casual treat-sharing (her love language is snacks). She’s low-maintenance and emotionally generous, a true Velcro dog who just wants someone to love her back. 2) Communication: she's also not shy about letting you know what she wants, when something’s bothering her or when she needs a little extra love, using her voice, gentle nudges or patiently waiting in relevant locations (while staring at you) to indicate what she wants. 3) Confidence: she arrived at shelter quite overweight, but thanks to her foster family’s help and her own determination (and a lot of motivation by way of vegetables as treats), she’s now strutting confidently toward her summer body and her rightful place on the couch.  4) Control (or lack thereof, occasionally): she appears not to have had much experience with other dogs and can be a bit over-excited when meeting them. We have a feeling she didn't get out of her former home much and sometimes will bark at other dogs on walks. At her age, she might thrive best in a dog-free home where she can soak up all the love for herself. That said, she has happily lived with cats! Diamond can be a little touchy about things she's not used to - such as veterinary handling. She does best with a slow and gentle approach. Diamond isn't currently living with kids but has interacted with them happily. Because she's such a low-key girl, she'd likely do best in a home with older kids. Diamond is living proof that senior dogs still have so much to give. She's getting a second chance at life and looking for a best friend to experience it with! Whether you’re watching TV, enjoying the porch breeze, or sharing snacks at sunset, Diamond is ready to shine right by your side! Diamond has caught up on vet care and is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. Diamond is available for adoption through City of Elderly Love. Interested in adopting her? Visit cityofelderlylove.org to complete an online adoption questionnaire or email us at info@cityofelderlylove.org!

If you have any questions or would like to adopt DIAMOND, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
