My story

Hello!  My name is Sprout.  I’m an 11-year-old Miniature Schnauzer who weighs 12 lbs.  Before coming to Poodle and Pooch Rescue, I wasn’t treated so great and had minimal socialization.   I will need a very patient, dog-savvy human who is sensitive to my needs and will give me plenty of time to adjust.  I’m an affectionate senior girl who wants nothing more than to find my “fur”ever home. General Behavior: Sprout is a resilient, playful, snuggly and goofy girl.  She is somewhat active in her senior years, but she is also fearful and unsure about some things. She has a few silly quirks, like backing out of spaces and rooms instead of turning around. She is curious about the world and what her “person” is doing at all times. Likes & Dislikes: Sprout LOVES walks and only stops to smell the most important “pee mail.” She easily walks at least one mile at a good pace. She loves to cuddle and will happily lie right next to you on the “people bed”.  Sprout loves treats and is a big fan of playing with plastic bags (AKA, shredding them). If you like yoga, she is your girl as she already does downward dog, cobra/snake, and knee lifts of her back legs on a regular basis. Sprout is not a fan of loud noises and startles easily.  Thunderstorms are also not her thing. She doesn’t care about toys but does like to mouth your hands (although she only has a few teeth left).  Training: Sprout continues to work on her basic manners and leash walking.  She is a vocal girl with visitors and also on walks with people and other dogs.  She is housetrained in her foster home (if let out frequently) and will let you know when she needs to go outside. She is also pee pad trained during the nighttime hours or when her foster mom is away. Car rides might not be her favorite thing, but she is pretty good in a car and will stay put. Medical:  Sprout has cataracts but has fairly good vision in one eye.  She is also losing her hearing, but she does respond when she’s looking at you or when you are using your louder voice.  And, like any dog, she will need her flea/tick and heartworm preventative. Other Animals: Sprout has experience with small dogs and was rescued with three other little dogs.  She may benefit from the company of another dog, as long as it is calm and her own size.  She has not been exposed to cats, but we don’t think it would be a good fit for her. Children: Sprout has had very little experience with children, so a home without children would be best for her due to her limited sight and hearing. Home:  Due to Sprout’s vision/hearing, a single-family home with a secure fenced yard is preferred, but not a requirement.  Her foster mom walks her on a leash but also says a fenced yard would be ideal for her to play in (and not bark at other walkers, dogs).   A home without a pool or stairs would be best for her safety. Inside the home, her depth perception is compromised until she gets familiar with the layout. Outside she has no problem. At night she gets her beauty rest in her dog bed.  In her foster home, she has been left alone to have the run of the house for up to 4 hours.  Grooming: Stunning Sprout will need a mini groom every 6-8 weeks, mainly to keep her hair out of her eyes, have her nails trimmed and get a bath. Overall: Sprout is a special soul who will undoubtedly add joy and love to your life.  Plus, she is super cute, with her floppy ears bouncing as she prances around.  If you are committed, patient and willing to take time for her to adjust, she could be the one for you. Are you the one for Sprout? Then visit our website www.PoodleandPoochRescue.org where you will find the application to adopt. You will be put in contact with the foster family for more information if it is a potential match. She is up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, microchipped, and spayed.  Sprout’s adoption donation is $225. ##2319847##

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Sprout, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
