My story

Asiago was picked up by Humane Law Enforcement officers after being found eating garbage outdoors. Unfortunately, he wasn't claimed at the San Diego Humane Society during his stray hold, and they reached out to us for a safe exit. On June 4th, Asiago became a Frosted Face. Asiago is the kind of gentleman who doesn't ask for much—just a cozy place to nap, a daily stroll to sniff the neighborhood, and someone who’ll laugh at his subtle sense of humor. At 8 years old, Asiago is a distinguished Wirehaired Terrier mix with the scruffy face of an old soul and the quiet dignity of someone who’s seen a thing or two. He was originally found as a stray and spent some time at the shelter before coming to Frosted Faces Foundation, where he’s now living with a loving foster family. Since day one, he’s fit in beautifully—adapting quickly to the routine, learning the doggie door in 24 hours, and proving himself to be a polite and mellow housemate. Asiago starts each morning with a happy trot and a low-key version of the zoomies, which his foster family describes as “the royal family’s interpretation of zoomies.” He doesn’t demand attention, but he’ll curl up beside you like he’s known you forever. He has a game he loves called Bowling for Treats, where he gently nudges a toy and waits for his prize—he always plays with great decorum. He gets along well with other dogs, both big and small, though he prefers a little personal space at mealtimes (can you blame him?). If another dog gets too close to his bowl or prized toy, he’ll give a polite grumble or lip curl, but never anything more. He enjoys meeting new people on walks, though he has become more selective about guests near his home and prefers slow introductions inside the house. Medically, Asiago has had a full work-up since arriving. His care team discovered a heart murmur, a positive heartworm diagnosis, and some changes to his spine and spleen that are still being evaluated. He’s receiving medication and thoughtful, compassionate care from his foster family and veterinary team. While his exact diagnosis is still unfolding, what’s most important is that he’s feeling good, enjoying his daily routine, and clearly benefiting from being in a peaceful, loving environment. Asiago is the kind of dog who thrives with people who understand that comfort and companionship matter more than perfection. He may have some medical mysteries still to solve, but what’s certain is that he’s a sweet, gentle soul who gives back every bit of the love he receives. If you’re looking for a laid-back companion with a tender heart and a bit of scruffy charm, Asiago might just be the one who makes your house feel more like home. If you have any questions or would like to adopt Asiago, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
