My story

All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption fee: $750 Meet Onyx — The Fluffy, Funny, Pocket-Sized Pal You've Been Waiting For!   Onyx is an 8 pound, 1 year old Papillon mix with the fluff of a teddy bear and the heart of a sweetheart. Rescued from the streets of the Central Valley, Onyx has already proven he’s ready to leave his rough past behind and lean into the good life— with soft beds, belly rubs, and lap time galore.   When Onyx first arrived, he was shy and unsure of his new surroundings. But within just a day, his true personality began to shine through. Now, he’s a loving, playful, and charming little guy who adores being close to his people—especially if your lap is available! He isn’t overly clingy, though; Onyx is just as happy curling up in his crate for a solo nap as he is sitting next to you while you work or relax.   His daily routine is simple and relaxed: wake up at 7am, head outside for potty time, enjoy breakfast at 7:30, then a nice walk to kick off the day. He spends most of his time quietly hanging out with his foster or snoozing in his crate. He gets another walk around 6pm, has dinner at 7, and winds down for bedtime in his crate around 10pm. He’s fully housetrained, crate-trained, and has access to the backyard throughout the day.   Onyx is both a playful pup and a professional lounger. He enjoys his toys and has a few goofy antics, like how his short legs make him look comically adorable when he walks. He walks well on leash— still a little cautious in new environments— but never barks at people or other dogs (except the occasional squirrel!). He’s social with respectful kids and happy to greet other dogs on walks.   He’s not big on treats— unless it’s cheese, which he lives for. He can chew when bored, but give him some toys and he’s content. No digging, no nuisance barking, just pure pint-sized joy.   Onyx would thrive in a loving home— maybe with kids or other small dogs to play with, or a family who wants a gentle, sweet companion to snuggle, stroll, and laugh with. He hasn't met a cat yet, but based on his gentle nature, we suspect he would be fine.   With his soft black coat, soulful eyes, and low-maintenance personality, Onyx is the perfect blend of cuddly and independent. He’s a sweet, funny little guy who’s ready to trade the streets for a forever lap—and he can’t wait to meet you.                  June 5, 2025, 4:19 am
