This gentle 1–2 year old Spaniel mix was overwhelmed and shut down at the shelter, but since arriving in his foster home, he’s been slowly learning that the world isn’t such a scary place after all. With his soft, expressive eyes and quiet nature, Kermit is a peaceful presence in the home. His routine is low-key and mellow: he wakes up at 7am for a potty break, then lounges until breakfast at 8am (though he prefers to graze on his food throughout the day). He’s a true nap connoisseur, spending his time lounging in his crate (door open) or snoozing on a dog bed nearby. After dinner around 5:30pm, it’s more relaxation until bedtime in his crate around 10pm. He settled into his crate routine quickly and quietly— no barking, no fuss. Kermit is a dog of gentle spirit. He’s shy and hesitant, especially around sudden movements or when people approach too quickly. He’ll sometimes cower, but if you get down on his level and move slowly, he’ll come over for soft pets and even belly rubs. He’s starting to show trust— curiously sitting near his people and seeking them out when they leave the room. He doesn’t bark much, only letting out a soft yelp when his favorite person disappears from the room. He’s still learning how to walk on a leash, and outdoor strolls can be a stop-and-go adventure. Sometimes he lies down and needs a moment— or a little carry— before continuing on. With time and patience, Kermit will learn that the leash means fun and freedom. He’s housetrained, crate-trained, and has had no accidents—he’s even starting to stand by the door when he needs to go out. Kermit gets along just fine with the medium-sized resident dog, respectfully keeping his distance. He hasn’t had interactions with kids or cats, but given his timid nature, a quiet, adult-only home or one with older, dog-savvy kids would suit him best. What makes Kermit special? He’s incredibly low-maintenance, quiet, and independent— but full of quiet resilience. He’s been through something tough, and though he’s still learning to trust, he’s already making beautiful progress. He doesn’t need constant attention or high-energy play; he just needs time, understanding, and a soft place to land. Kermit is a gentle heart in a noisy world. With a little patience and a lot of love, he’s going to blossom—and whoever adopts him will get to witness something truly special. June 4, 2025, 4:29 pm
