My story

Brownie is an 8-year-old, 11-pound Chihuahua mix who has been adjusting wonderfully in his Brooklyn foster home. He’s sweet, playful, and friendly, and while it may take him a minute to warm up, once he knows you, he’ll be your loyal little sidekick. Brownie loves going on walks, meeting other dogs, getting belly rubs, and cozying up in his favorite blanket for a nap. He’s not much of a toy guy, but he absolutely adores being included in day-to-day activities and makes the cutest little spin when he sees other dogs on the street. Brownie seems to be house-trained—he goes pee and poop outside consistently. While he was initially curious and did some indoor marking, he’s been using a belly band when home alone and now rarely needs it. He’s also doing well with obedience training, responding to “come” and “stay,” and is working on building up his skills. He walks beautifully on leash and doesn’t get startled by loud city noises, not even skateboards. He's used to the hustle and bustle of New York and takes it all in stride. He has free roam of his foster’s apartment and shows no signs of separation anxiety. He might try to follow you out the door, but once you’re gone, he settles in quietly and naps until you return. Brownie has been a well-adjusted apartment dog and loves a good balance of activity and downtime. He would be happy as a solo dog with a semi-active person or family, or as a second pup in a home—he gets along well with every dog he meets, even the ones who don’t love him back. Brownie can be a little temperamental around high-value chews or special treats, so we recommend a home with no young children or only older, dog-savvy kids. He’s made great progress in foster care and will benefit from continued structure and gentle reinforcement of the training he’s already started. We're currently awaiting the results of his senior blood panel and echocardiogram to get a full picture of his health, but so far he's thriving in foster and loving life. Brownie is ready for his forever home and looking for someone to keep up with his walks, snuggles, and social calendar. Vaccinated for Rabies, DHPP, Lepto, and Bordetella, heartworm negative, and microchipped. Needs to be neutered. Current on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. To apply for Brownie, visit our website (www.waggytailrescue.org) for an adoption application. It is important to fill out an application as soon as possible for consideration, and we require a complete application for you to meet an animal. We are currently unable to respond to general email inquiries as an all-volunteer run rescue. If the dog is on our website, they are still available. Waggytail Rescue CANNOT guarantee the exact age of any adoptable dog, or final size of any of our adoptable puppies. We rely on the information provided to us by veterinarians, shelters, owner surrenders and other circumstances bringing the dog into our rescue. Adoptions: adopt@waggytailrescue.org ##2382866##

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Brownie, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
