My story

Are you looking for a velcro cat? A cat who all you need is a cuddly space for him to sleep, a shoulder for him to ride around on, and some crumpled up paper to play with for him to be happy? Gizmo is your guy! Gizmo has lived with other cats and young children and would be more than happy to live in this environment again as long as a slow introduction is set in place for everybody's comfortability. Gizmo is a bit nervous here in the shelter and just needs some extra time and patience to really start showing his true self to his new hoomans. Gizmo would love to meet you soon!! The cat you are adopting tends to have a difficult time with transition. This means that they are likely to be very nervous when you first get them home and may stay that way for weeks until they are settled and can begin to relax. This cat should be set up in a “base camp” or a room of their own, where they cannot see other animals or people, for at least 3 days. This room should have a door that closes. The cat should receive daily care in this room and you can feel free to visit as much as you like. You should offer a variety of foods until you find one that they are eating. If they are not eating within 48 hours of adoption, or if you have any questions or concerns, please call us right away at 413-781-4000 or email us at springfield@dakinhumane.org. If you're ready to adopt now: Come on in during open adoption hours Tuesday - Saturday 12:30-3:00! For in-shelter pets (not in foster care) You can also: Call us (413-781-4000 x 1) or email us (springfield@dakinhumane.org) for more information about a pet, to adopt sight unseen or to place a 24 hour hold on a pet. We are often on the line with another client, but we return voice mail and emails within 24 hours. All cat adoption fees include; -spay/neuter -rabies vaccine -current distemper vaccines (may need additional boosters with your veterinarian) -FeLV/FIV blood test -microchip implanted & registered to the adopter -treatment of fleas/ticks/ear mites -veterinary exam and health certificate at Dakin -free vet exam within 30 days after adoption with participating veterinarians Most pets have also received other medical care while with us. Your veterinarian may recommend additional health care for your new pet.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Gizmo, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
