My foster wrote: Xiao, enigmatic, stoic, curious and yet somehow very skittish. If I could write a quote for this stocky cat it would be "I'm retired now but I can still 'round up a few intruders for you." He's the kind of couch potato that will plead with you to go to bed. At first he doesn't talk very much, observing you cautiously and reacting to any bump in the night or movement you make. It takes time for him to figure out if you're friend or foe but patience and predictability from you will help him with that. Once he figures out you're a friend he'll still easily startle but he'll be comfortable around you and therefore more talkative. Affection is big for Xiao so once he's ready don't hold back pets and grooming. Except when he's tired, he gets a little moody when it's time to sleep. All that being said, don't let his lower energy retiree vibe fool you. He was definitely a hunter back in the day and he will attack "intruders" when prompted. Xiao plays like he's on a mission and will do anything he can to capture the toys you wave in front of him. What my friends at ACC say about me:I have lived with cats in my previous home.I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe.Cheek and chin scratches make me so happy! What do you get when you cross a cat with a couch? A cat-potato! And that's me to a T!Xiao was in the den with his head down, and his eyes averted, appearing somewhat fearful. He accepted all petting without really warming up and while remaining in place. He ignored treats. He is a sweet cat will need some time to warm up to his new home.Xiao tolerates attention and petting but appears to be moderately fearful or stressed in the shelter. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that she go to a home with some cat experience preferred and be well counseled in fearful cat behavior.A volunteer writes: From my interaction, in my opinion, Xiao is an adorable, friendly, and brave boy. When I first approached his kennel, he was resting all the way at the back of his cubby. I extended my hand a little bit to let him sniff it, and after a few sniffs, he let me pet his head. After a few seconds, his purr motor began to run and I knew that we were gonna be good friends. He showed me that a few minutes of patience can go a long way. I watched him become more comfortable with me as he continued to lean his head into my hands and vibrate my hand with how loud he purred. He continue to roll around getting more comfortable and confident, extending his paws in front of him stretching while taking in all of the love I had to give. This boy holds a spot in my heart because instead of being at the forefront of his kennel greeting visitors, he stayed in his cubby where he can easily be overlooked. He is working hard to continue to build up his courage and we are here to support him! Primary Color: Tabby Weight: 12.17 Age: 6yrs 1mths 2wks
