My story

Meet Pola! Pola and her brother Samson were entrusted to our care through the Final Wish Program. This is their story: On May 9th , a woman arrived on our patio holding two small, chinchilla-like senior dogs, Pola and Samson. Grieving and overwhelmed, she was in the midst of planning her mother’s funeral while also caring for her disabled husband. Through tears, she told us her mom had passed away the week before — and that she had promised to do right by her dogs. Pola and Samson are both 12 years old. Pola had been diagnosed with diabetes back in March, but due to her mom’s declining health, she hadn’t been receiving her insulin. We were told Pola had stopped eating and was losing weight. She looked very ill. Samson, on the other hand, seemed in better shape aside from an ear infection. With no vet staff available over the weekend, we rushed Pola to Animal Urgent Care in Escondido, where she was immediately hospitalized. She was suffering from Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) — a life-threatening complication that occurs when the body can’t use sugar as energy due to a lack of insulin. It’s a serious condition, but we were prepared to fight for her. Pola is still hospitalized at FFF, doing her best to recover — with occasional visits from her brother, Samson, to lift her spirits. Please keep Pola in your thoughts as she continues her recovery. And when she’s ready, we would love to find a forever family for both her and Samson. If you’re interested in adopting or fostering, reach out to us at placement@frostedfacesfoundation.org.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Pola, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
