My story

Chumlee came to the shelter on April 29th, 2025, after a concerned caller reported a medium-sized dog running at large and walking in and out of the street. Animal Protection Officers arrived and safely brought Chumlee, a medium male pittie mix, into the shelter. Since arriving, Chumlee has shown himself to be a playful and social pup with a soft, gentle side. He has participated in several playgroups with other dogs and has shown good social skills, playful energy, and even potential as a helper dog for future playgroups. Though he can be initially cautious about physical touch, he warms up and solicits petting once comfortable. Chumlee is treat-motivated, enjoys toys, and displays a lovely balance of curiosity and affection. Rough & Rowdy playstyle. Sexually motivated. Would overreact to other dog's corrections at times and needed a handler to step in. 05/03/2025: Approached the kennel and he had middle tail, soft eyes, standing, came to the front. Took treats gently and was easy to leash. Pulled slightly walking outside. Once outside, tail was high not wagging, ears back, soft eyes, lots of sniffing. In the pen when being touched he had high tail not wagging and would move away from the handler after being touched. As the handler continued, he did a fidget behavior of gently mouthing my fingers in response to me continuing to pursue touching. As a result, I stopped petting. He was interested in toys, playful with the plush toy, came into my space with the toy and remained unfazed when I touched the toy after he disengaged from it. In the last minutes in the pen, his body language changed to tail middle/low, and he began to solicit petting. He put his side against my legs and leaned, with ears back and soft eyes, gentle panting. 05/01/2025 Playgroup: Good gate greetings, steerable, medium energy, immediately initiated play, playful, appears to be pretty dog social with all dogs in yard, potential helper for future playgroups.
