Meet Sandy, aka Sandwich (Sandra if she's being mischievious, which is often)! This funny and curious girl is full of personality and love. Miss Sandy has fully emerged from her shy little shell and now runs her foster household like a tiny, snorting despot. She spends her days supervising trash can duty, micromanaging the breakfast process, obliterating her kibble with no remorse, redecorating her bed with absolutely no sense of symmetry, and yelling at pigeons just because. Sandy is an utter lovebug ~ but also a bit of a scamp. And a miracle. A while back, she dislocated her hip (which was as painful and dramatic as it sounds). We wanted to do surgery, but her heart disease made anesthesia too risky. So we turned to pain management and supportive care ~ and wouldn’t you know it? This tenacious little sandwich not only recovered, she RUNS now. Like, full-tilt, ears-flopping, chaos-in-her-wake runs. We are so proud of her. Sandy loves FOOD, literally any human, car rides, FOOD, naps, being pet nonstop, FOOD again, and a cozy dog bed. She also loves snack puzzles and chews. She's completely housebroken. She came to us overweight so she's on a mission to shed a few pounds and build up her strength. Her new family will need to help her keep exercising and losing weight, and then maintain her progress once she's in a good place. Sandy absolutely loves her people and will be happiest in a home with humans who are home most of the time to snuggle with her. She gets worried easily so will do best in a quiet and calm environment with people who are gentle and kind and help build up her confidence, especially in new places. She's great with older children but would like a home without younger ones. She loves being outside and going for walks, as well as cruising in her stroller for longer outings. Sandy's vision is solid though she has some trouble hearing. She takes medication regularly for her slightly enlarged heart and suspected tracheal collapse, but nothing slows her down - she recently broke the sound barrier while sprinting for a bag of chips her foster mom had dropped. Sandy has hip dysplasia so she needs to be kept off of elevated surfaces and carried up and down stairs. She's had some swimming sessions to help with her hip and absolutely loves them. Yes, her heart is bad. Yes, she has some complicated medical stuff. And yes, she deserves a home that loves her exactly as she is. We believe Sandy's person is out there - someone who wants a cuddly, endlessly entertaining little goblin with an indestructible spirit and a deep commitment to shoe-sniffing. Could it be you? Until then, she’s got us. And probably a pigeon vendetta to maintain. Sandy is approximately 13 years old and 19 lbs. Fostered in Baltimore, MD Please apply at MirisHaven.org
