Dog Name: Nessie Breed: Mix Sex: Female Age: 2 1/2 Weight: 32 pounds Medical Needs: None Housebroken: Yes, not one accident in the house. Crate trained: Yes. Nessie’s crate is her safe space. She will initially spend most of her time in there, until she becomes more comfortable with her new surroundings. She sleeps all night without a peep, no matter how long she’s in there. Good in the car: Yes, but she is very nervous. Good on a leash: Yes. Initially she was extremely skittish of all things, so the walks were very short. After 3 1/2 months with me, we are able to walk much farther (did a whole mile recently!!), even going past distractions (power washing vehicles, mowers, strangers ) that in the beginning sent her running for home. Energy level: Mostly low, with occasional zoomies. Need a fenced in yard: No, but since Nessie initially will be very skittish on leash, it would be great for her to have a fenced in yard to get some zoomies out or lounge in the sun (she does enjoy doing both, now that she’s comfortable in her foster home). Dog Friendly: Yes. She has lived her whole life with other dogs. Nessie feels the more dogs the merrier. She holds her own playing with dogs more than twice her size. If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? YES. Nessie is much more confident with another dog. It may initially take another dog to help coax her out of her crate and show her the lay of the land. Cat Friendly? Yes Kid Friendly: Unknown If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? 13+ years. Nessie is still fearful of new people, quick movements and loud noises. A quieter household would be best for her, especially until she gets adjusted in her new environment. Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them? Nessie’s beginning was not a happy one, but she is ready for her happily ever after. This pint sized cutie pie was born in a shelter in Georgia, where she lived her whole life, along with her sister. In October of last year she went into foster care in GA and then made her way to DE in mid January. Initially she stayed in her crate all day, only coming out when extracted and carried outside to potty. After a week and a half she began to trust and with the help of her four legged foster brother, started walking outside and back in on her own. Nessie is super sweet and her spunky personality is slowly coming out. She enjoys chewing on bones, sunbathing, lots of belly rubs, giving kisses (once she is trusting of the human), playing with toys and has joined her foster brother watching over the house from the safety of the front door. She is making progress every day, and it’s a joy to see her coming out of her shell. This adorable little girl will need lots of patience in her new home, so please consider this. She will not warm up to people right away, it will take time, probably several weeks to a month. She cannot be rushed through his process, but it will happen when she’s comfortable. When it does, her worried look turns into the sweetest smile and she will become your little shadow.
