My story

Name: Katniss Leaping Lovebug, The Soccer Sensation Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier Mix Sex: Spayed Female Age: 2.5 years Weight: 35 lbs Bright, Joyful, Mischievous, Gremlin Energy Good with dogs? Katniss needs a home with no other dogs, but can play with other dogs who can match her energy level and are tolerant of her playstyle. She has attended daycare and done well. Good with cats? No Good with kids? Yes, kids 10+, she may accidentally tackle smaller humans with her exuberant affection. Energy level: High! Katniss is a curious, explorative girl who loves stimulation and activity, but can also calm down and snooze peacefully or cuddle in a lap. She loves to play with all kinds of toys and take leisurely walks, sniffing and observing the world around her. Behavioral needs: Katniss did not have the easiest start in life. She was taken from her prior owners who did not provide a nurturing environment or proper puppy training and socialization. Katniss has made great progress with daily training and reinforcement of good behaviors. Katniss is an enthusiastic learner with a zest for life, ready for an owner who'll be committed to guiding her journey through continued positive training and proper socialization experiences. She is a bright, attentive, good listener who is eager to learn, loves human interaction, and is motivated by treats and food. She may chase small animals such as squirrels. She will voluntarily enter a crate to rest. Animal Characteristics: A little over 2 years ago, or around 15 dog years, or some other number of gremlin years (loremasters are still researching the conversion rates), a young pit bull crossed paths with a wandering gremlin. An unlikely couple, they nonetheless caught each others’ eye, fell in love, and after a passionate night of snorty, stinky lovemaking, who should be brought into this world months later but Katniss! You likely have questions about this marvel of biology and magic. What does a half-pibble, half gremlin even look like? The good news is, this cutie combines the best of both her parents. Katniss has a big pibble head, yet even bigger gremlin ears. Her eyes are equal parts adoring and mischievous. She can contort her lithe frame into the perfect position for optimal snuggliness and derpiness. And on the inside? Katniss loves her human and dog friends with an intensity impossible for a mere mortal pup. The world is full of Katniss’s best friends who just haven’t realized it yet! Our girl is still figuring out which of her ancestors’ customs to use to win over any particular new friend: butt sniffs, paw touches, zoomies, unblinking eye contact, flying ninja moves, sitting calmly and waiting for them to approach when they’re ready (this last one is a work in progress…). She’s also workshopping some strategies from other species, like lurking in the tall grass to pounce for a play sesh / wrestling match. Is there some mountain lion in her genetics? Who knows - gremlin lineages are famously muddled. Katniss is a special girl, who’s been through a lot and is trying her hardest to find her forever home, but she has just as much love and fun to offer her new family! Soon everyone will want their own half-pibble, half-gremlin, so come meet her now so you can adopt the original for yourself! Katniss is an incredible dog looking for her forever home, and she comes with an amazing bonus: she has $500 in training support through the Noble Beast Scholarship Fund! This scholarship is here to help her transition smoothly into her new home and strengthen the bond with her adopter. Please learn more about the adoption process and fill out an application at www.pawsco.org/adopt/adoption-process. You can also contact my friends at PawsCo at adopt@pawscoadoptions.org if you have questions. I look forward to meeting you!

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Katniss Leaping Lovebug, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
