Magic Johnson

My story

Magic Johnson is a four-year-old, 22-pound tan Chihuahua mix. Magic was found as a stray and was clearly overwhelmed by the experience. Being out on his own was scary, and when he was startled by a finder picking him up, he nipped. He also had a brief tiff with a neighbor dog. But once he was safely inside, his personality quickly changed. His finder said Magic was calm, friendly, and wonderfully nice in the house. The busy Maricopa County shelter was also a frightening place for this sensitive boy, and he was e-listed for behavior. But Magic has been terrific since arriving at Home Fur Good! He is a sweet boy who walks nicely on a leash and loves his stuffy toys. And then there’s his best trick: Magic can sit straight up like a giant meerkat! Magic has a cyst on his neck that was partially drained and is being monitored. His adopters will simply need to keep an eye on it for a couple of weeks to make sure it continues to go down. Because of the location of the cyst, Magic must currently be walked using a harness. We’re still getting to know Magic when it comes to other dogs and will be working on calm introductions. If he has a canine sibling waiting at home, a meet-and-greet will be the best way to make sure everyone is a good match. Magic’s story is a wonderful reminder that fear doesn’t always tell you who a dog really is. Give this boy a little understanding and a chance to feel safe, and you get to see the sweet, playful companion underneath. We think there’s a whole lot of magic in Magic! Magic’s adoption fee is $250 and includes spay/neuter, vaccinations, microchipping, and a complimentary wellness visit at Phoenix Mountain Animal Hospital. Ready to meet this special boy? Please call 602-971-1334 to schedule an appointment. You can also visit Home Fur Good Thursday through Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for walk-ins.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Magic Johnson, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
