Rocco

My story

Rocco is a bouncy, chocolate Lab with the enthusiasm of a puppy and the sturdy body of a young dog-about a year old and living his best "big puppy" life. He's a bundle of joy and energy who meets the world with curiosity, humour, and an open heart. Rocco loves people-men, women, and strangers alike-and shows his affection in the sweetest (if occasionally mouthy) ways. He'll gently hold your hand in his mouth to keep the cuddles going, not out of aggression, but because he wants to be as close as possible. He's learning that calm manners earn even more pets, and he's making great progress. Kids over 6 are a hit, and he's good with male dogs; female dogs are still a "to be determined." Active and playful, Rocco thrives on walks, games, and being part of the action. He's crate trained, sleeps comfortably in his crate overnight (11 pm-6:30 am) and can be crated during the day while the family is at work. He's a good eater who loves treats (sometimes a bit too much-he'll swallow them whole!), drinks a lot, and pees frequently. With frequent bathroom breaks he's mostly house trained, though he's had a few accidents along the way. Rocco knows sit, come, and leave it, and he's working on down, stay, wait, and other commands. He enjoys learning, though stay and wait are trickier when he's excited. On leash he's improving with a martingale collar, but his excitement can turn into pulling-especially around other dogs and people. A fenced yard would be ideal so he can burn off energy safely. He'll bark at noises or someone at the door, but it's not excessive. New inanimate objects (recycling bins, moving chairs, clothes on a line) can make him nervous; he may back away and bark until he figures them out. Health note: Rocco recently had cherry eye surgery (Sept 8) and is healing well; his vet recommends keeping his cone on a bit longer to protect the area. Rocco is a very strong dog who doesn't yet know his own strength, and his spatial sense is still developing. With patience, consistent training, and plenty of love, he's poised to grow into a wonderfully well-mannered companion. If you can offer an active home and a sense of humour, Rocco will reward you with endless wagging tails and whole-hearted devotion. Our adoption fees cover all up to date veterinary needs, including but not limited to: full veterinary examination, age appropriate vaccinations, fecal test and parasite prevention, wellness bloodwork, spay or neuter, and microchip. All dogs will be started on a 6 week trial of pet insurance after adoption.
