Even on that first day he greeted people happily and let himself be handled without a fuss. Since then he has been staying at our partner boarding house, and the sweet, people loving dog he was that day is the same dog he is now, just with more room to be himself.PersonalityChidol is a charmer, and he knows it. He's the kind of dog who has to know what's going on: a new smell, a new corner of the yard, a bag someone set down. He'll walk over, sniff it out, and settle the question for himself. Mornings are quiet with him. When someone comes into the kennel, he waits calmly rather than jumping or spinning, and then he's ready for whatever comes next. His energy is middle of the road, enough for good long walks and exploring, not so much that he can't settle. Left on his own, he sleeps or waits patiently. Nothing in particular seems to frighten him.CompatibilityChidol doesn't hesitate with new people. He walks right up, asks for attention, and turns on the charm. He's the same with men and women. He loves being petted, though he isn't one to stay curled up on a lap for long, he'd rather lean in for a scratch and then go see what else is happening. There's no spot on him that's sensitive to touch. He hasn't met young children yet, so we can't say how he'd be with them.Chidol hasn't lived with cats before, and the puppy mill owner mentioned he showed some prey drive toward small dogs. For that reason, we're looking for a home without cats or small dogs.With other dogs, Chidol mostly keeps to himself. Since his rescue he's spent much of his time on his own while he went through heartworm treatment and recovered from knee surgery, so he hasn't had a lot of dog company, and he hasn't shown much interest in it either. Male dogs tend not to warm to him, even when he's done nothing to bring it on, and he isn't fond of them in return. With female dogs he's selective, and it really depends on the dog.Behaviours & TrainingChidol does his business outdoors and rests quietly in a kennel, lying down and waiting without complaint. He walks well on a leash and harness and doesn't pull much. Dogs, cars, and motorbikes on the street don't get a reaction out of him, he simply doesn't take interest first. He travels well in the car in his crate and behaves at the vet. Baths, nail trims, and brushing all go smoothly. He doesn't chew things he shouldn't, and he doesn't bark. He comes when called and knows sit. He has shown no signs of separation anxiety.Health & DietChidol is neutered, dewormed, microchipped, and up to date on all vaccinations. He takes monthly parasite preventatives. He tested positive for heartworm after his rescue and has completed the full course of treatment. In July 2026 he had patellar luxation surgery on both hind legs to correct his kneecaps, and he has come through the recovery well. Neither of these affects his daily life now. He walks comfortably, moves easily, and has the energy of a dog half his age when there's something new to investigate.He has no known allergies, no skin or digestive issues, and no physical disabilities. His teeth are in clean condition with none missing. He eats kibble twice a day, isn't greedy about food, and has not shown any food allergies or sensitivities so far.Ideal HomeChidol would be happiest as the only dog in an active household with a yard, somewhere he can nose around, explore, and burn off his curiosity, with regular walks to keep his world interesting. A younger family or an active adopter who enjoys getting outside would suit him well. First time dog owners are welcome. Chidol is easy to live with and isn't expected to need much hand holding as he settles in, just a family who will love him unconditionally and understands that adoption is a lifetime commitment.Chidol spent the first years of his life in a puppy mill, and somehow came out of it curious, friendly, and glad to see people. He's ready for a yard to explore, a leash to walk beside, and a family to be affectionate with for the rest of his life.
