We at PDR believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process. My name is Jarvis and I am a 25 lbs. Moyen Poodle. I am on the smaller side, but I think I am the perfect size. I come from a puppy mill and am 5 years old. I have black patches on my white body, and I think I am very handsome. I am a hair dog, so I do require lots of brushing and grooming appointments. My foster mom gave me a haircut, and I loved having all of my smelly and matted hair removed. I was so excited after my bath that I had to run around in the yard. I was so much cooler without all that hair! When I came to my new foster home, I was very scared and timid. I was not sure what this place was, and who these new people were. However, they do have to foster sisters for me to learn from. I am still a little nervous at times but have settled in and I am getting more comfortable every day. I have learned how to walk on stairs, lay on couches and that the dogs barking on TV are not real. Although sometimes they still trick me and I end up running around looking for the dog that jumped out of the TV. It’s a tricky situation as they look so realistic! Now that I have been in my foster home for a few weeks, I have learned there are a few things I really like or should I say love. One thing I really love to do is be outside in the back yard. I absolutely love to roll in the grass and lounge around in the sun. It is so nice to be outside that I could spend all day here. I have years to catch up on, and this is so much better than the smelly barn full of wood chips that I spent years living in. I also love to play chase with my foster sisters. It is so much fun to run around the back yard with them and play. I don’t have to live in a house with other dogs, but I really do like it as they show me the way and help me be a confident little boy. I have learned to toss a ball around the yard by myself and then chase it down. Toys have become so much fun! When my foster parents play with me outside, I get so excited that I run around the yard, they call it the zoomies. Another thing that I have found I love is when I am in the house I love to lounge on the couch. The first time my foster Dad put me on the couch to snuggle with was awesome. It was so comfortable and I love being close to my humans. Now, I am always on the couch either snuggling or just lounging there. The couch is so soft and comfortable. At night I sleep on the floor on my big boy doggie bed, it is not the couch (LOL) but it is comfortable. I sleep through the night and if I am let out before bed I will last all night without needing to go out. I am fully house trained and will do all my business outside, but you need to make sure you see my signs that I need to go out for a washroom break. I will go to the back door and look at you. I am sure whoever adopts me will figure it out quickly. I have been learning how to walk on a leash. I really don’t like them right now and am still unsure why they are needed. I tend to just stop walking and lay down (sploot) as I don’t know what I am supposed to do. I am getting better and more confident. We practice this every day, and my parents say I am a quick learner, so I am sure I will get it figured out. I see my foster sisters walk just fine so I think I will get the courage to walk like them soon. When I am left alone in the house my foster family puts me in a crate with my favourite treat and a toy to keep me busy. I have only been left alone for a few hours at a time. I am not a huge fan of the crate, but I know I must hang out until my foster family comes home to let me out. I just don’t think it is fair that I am in the crate and sometimes I show my displeasure by whining. I only do it quietly and for a little bit, but I just want to make sure they know about my displeasure. I am so glad that Pound Dog rescued me and has given me a second chance at living life. I have gone to the veterinarian, and I am told that my busy love life is now over. I have been fully vetted and can spend my days relaxing and laying in the sun. I am still new to living in the outside world so loud noises and fast movement startle me. I need a quiet outside environment, so no busy inner city living for me please. I will not be suited to apartment or condo living and would like a house with a securely fenced back yard with room for me to zoomie around in. I would like a home with adults only and have people home more than away. I would also like to learn how to be a properly behaved dog and would enjoy many levels of obedience. I want to make my new family proud of me so level 1 obedience is a must. Since I have spent the first 5 years in a puppy mill, my future family should understand that my journey is still unfolding. I have made tremendous progress, but I am still working on the final version of myself. I will need patience, understanding, and continued encouragement as I learn that the world can be a safe and wonderful place. Hopefully I will find my forever family soon.
