My story

Hi there, I’m Firefly!I arrived at GHS in May 2026 as a stray. My history is unknown but what is known is that I`m a fun boy with a charming personality! I`m not getting much adoption interest and I`m not sure why. I`m a very hard working guy and don`t people want free labor? Not only will I not charge you, but I pay rent in kisses and snuggles. I hope you don`t mind 73 pounds on your lap. I will do almost anything you ask as long as you show me a couple times how to do it first. The humans here call the other dogs smart but I`m next level smart and catch on to new instructions faster than you can give them. Isn`t that what people want? Yes, I am energetic and I do like to work, which means I am happiest when I have a job to do but that job can be anything, even lying on a mat when you`d like to relax. As long as you are willing to put in some effort and training, I will be the best buddy you could ask for.MY IDEAL HOME INVOLVES…CHILDREN: Teenagers should be fine but no young kids.OTHER DOGS: Potentially, while I enjoy playing with other dogs, I don`t love sharing them with my humans, so if I were to live with a dog in the home, it would have to be a particular, easy-going pooch; otherwise, I could have dog friends outside the home.CATS: No, given my prey drive.FIRST-TIME DOG OWNERS: Someone with dog and or herding breed experience would be most ideal.FENCED-IN YARD: Required, to help meet energy needs. Rural, un-fenced, would also be excellent!HOUSING ENVIRONMENT: Any with a yard (unless rural).SOMEONE HOME MOST OF THE DAY: Not necessarily.SOME OTHER THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT ME…ACTIVITY LEVEL: High.HOUSE-TRAINED: Yes.If you are interested in adopting me, please click the `Adopt Me` button to apply!FOSTER ME! I`m excited to be selected as part of the Paisley Project and I`m looking for a foster home! If your home environment matches what I`m looking for based on the information above, please consider applying to foster me. The Paisley Project aims to match selected, long-stay animals at GHS with fosters that can provide a home that gradually introduces them to the everyday experiences of life as a pet. Fosters will offer the routine, structure and stability needed to help get animals ready for their new family. Learn more & apply at guelphhumane.ca/the-paisley-project

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Firefly, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
