Civic is a 6 year old, 10 lb Miniature Pinscher mix who is equal parts tender, sensitive, and deeply loyal once he feels safe! He can still life a full life, but his life expectancy will likely be shorter than normal. About Civic’s Breed: Our best guess is that Demi is a Miniature Pinscher mixed breed. A Miniature Pinscher mix is typically a bright, alert, and sensitive little dog with a big personality tucked into a small frame. They’re known for being loyal to their chosen people, often forming deep bonds and showing a mix of independence and affection. Many Min Pin mixes have a cautious or shy side at first, but once they trust you, they become devoted companions who love routine, warmth, and a predictable environment. Their ideal home is one that offers patience, structure, and emotional safety, especially during the adjustment period. A calmer, lower traffic household is often best, along with adopters who understand that these dogs may need time to feel secure and shouldn’t be rushed into new interactions. They thrive with people who appreciate a sensitive, loyal dog and can provide consistent reassurance, gentle boundaries, and a cozy place to curl up — often right under the covers. What to Love about Civic: His happiest place in the world is under the covers — he spends his days curled up in bed while you work and snuggles under the blankets with you at night, so he absolutely needs a home where he’s welcome to sleep in the bed. Civic has made huge progress in his foster home: after arriving terrified and untouchable for the first three weeks, he has slowly blossomed into a sweet, gentle companion who lounges, plays with toys, and coexists peacefully with the other dogs in the house. His past — losing his home abruptly and spending time in the shelter — left a mark, and he still struggles with trust at first. Even after two months, he sometimes hesitates to come when called or be picked up right away, but once he bonds, he is devoted and loving. Civic’s fear of new people is real and must be taken seriously. When his foster’s mom arrived, he barked intensely and even put his teeth on her a few times — not biting, but warning. With patient management, space, and a squirt bottle for safety, he went from terrified to sleeping with his head in her lap by day three. This is who Civic is: a dog who can love deeply, but only if he’s allowed to build trust at his pace. He may always be barky with visitors and could be a bite risk if pushed, so he needs an adopter who understands fear based behavior and will protect him from situations where he feels cornered. He uses his crate as a safe space but doesn’t need to be crated when left alone, and he’s mostly potty trained, using pee pads as needed. Civic prefers female energy and would thrive in a low traffic home, ideally with an older single woman or a patient couple willing to let him unfold slowly. He is not suited for homes with children due to his fearfulness and need for clear, consistent boundaries. With other dogs, he is wonderful — gentle, respectful, and comforted by their presence — and he would love canine siblings in his new home.
