My story

We have been on a very expensive wild spending spree at the vet this week with lots of new medically-challenged emergency intakes 🤯. Things are bad right now in the shelter/rescue world. Really bad. None of us are ok 😔 We are still catching up on getting to know all our new little friends- some young, many seniors, some likely hospice cases. But all deserving of a fresh start. First up, meet Maya! Her owners were moving that day (of course) and showed up at the pound with this skinny matted blind 10 year old ragamuffin they said was a purebred poodle. She had not been to a vet in a while and was eating well but not gaining weight… her bloodwork and urine test showed she is diabetic! So we are grateful she was surrendered just in time before crashing without treatment. She’s a sweetheart, loves attention and cries to be picked up and put on your bed. A very good girl for her twice daily insulin injections with her meals, goes to the bathroom outside when taken out in time, and is fine with other gentle dogs who won’t get mad if she accidentally bumps into them. She has a libre sensor and we are working on getting her stabilized and regulated and will soon be looking for a permanent home committed to her ongoing care- she is otherwise pretty healthy and happy and hopefully will have many years to be loved and spoiled. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.
