My story

To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston Minnow is a 5 year old neutered male, who was surrendered from a home that we’re told they threw things at him, kicked him, and pulled his tail. He has been in his new safe foster home for almost two weeks and is doing really well in trusting his new humans. Here’s what his foster volunteers say about him:   How would you describe the cat's general personality? Affectionate, playful, and a little bit sassy :) He’s a big sweetheart!   Does the cat enjoy being pet? If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet? Yes, mostly brief head scratches. He’s starting to accept pets on his back as well.   Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? He doesn’t seem to like being pet close to the base of his tail.   Does the cat come on your lap? No Does the cat like to be held? No Does the cat sleep in your bed? Yes Does the cat seek your attention? Yes   Does the cat like to play? Yes What are the cat's favorite games and toys? He loves our feather wand toy! He’ll chase it for a long time. He also likes smaller toys with catnip.   How vocal is the cat? What kinds of sounds does the cat make? He is fairly vocal. He has the cutest meow (and he loves letting you know when he’s hungry)! We haven’t heard him growl or anything. He meows and purrs (he’s almost always purring, and we can hear it across the room!)   Does the cat scratch a scratcher? If no, please explain. I believe he uses a horizontal cardboard scratcher (I haven’t seen him do it, but there is evidence!) Does the cat always use the litter box? If no, please explain. Yes   What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? 1/3 cup dry food twice a day, and 1/2 can of pate wet food at night with his meds (we use 5.3oz cans of the wet food) Is the cat picky about food? He definitely prefers pate wet food over other types. What is the cat's favorite treat? He LOVES treats, he isn’t too picky!   Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? Yes to both, he sometimes will grab at your leg (usually with claws, sometimes without) randomly as you walk by, but he can be easily distracted with toys.   Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? Yes to both, but it’s easy to tell when he’s about to bite (when he gets overwhelmed with too much petting, which happens pretty fast, for example). He always gives a warning by opening his mouth a bit. Sometimes he’ll bite when he grabs your leg too, though.   To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? Social! He’s very sweet.   If you have observed the cat with other animals, please describe how they get on? He doesn’t seem to like dogs. While he was in his carrier at the vet, a dog got too close and he hissed.   Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions? He loves rubbing on people’s legs, he likes hanging out in the same room as people (but sometimes likes his alone time too), and he’s just a gorgeous cat! He has the prettiest eyes.   In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? Minnow is a total sweetheart! He’s adorable and so much fun to play with. It’s hard to think of the best thing about him, but I personally love how loudly and often he purrs.   What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? We’re still working on getting him to bite less (by redirecting him, or no longer showing him attention for a few minutes after he bites), and it seems to be working!
