My story

MEET BUD! Bud is an approximately 10-year-old Shepherd mix who joined us from ACCT Philly in January after his owner passed away. Poor Bud was found all alone in his home and was terrified to leave. Bud had been adopted from the South as a puppy so finding himself separated from his family and home and landing in the shelter as a senior was a shock. Now that he’s had the chance to decompress and heal, Bud is SUNSHINE in old man form. Bud appears to be a Hound/Shepherd mix. Which means he’s a smart, sensitive guy who still very much loves to play and chase ball and will do just about anything for a treat. Besides some age-related hip stiffness, it’s hard to believe he’s up there in age because he’s such a bouncy, happy boy (but never jumps up on people). Bud quickly warms up to his people and happily dances in delight whenever he sees them. He loves to curl his body around your legs for back and hip scratches. He also loves to lean his head against you for pets. He’s had a chance to meet new human friends in his foster home and while a little shy initially, we’ve found that if you offer him a treat or two and Bud will be your best friend. Bud doesn’t require a lot of exercise but does still love a lap around the block or jog in the yard. Bud is very attentive to his humans and is eager to listen and please. He came to the rescue already knowing basic commands, walking well on the leash, and totally housebroken once healthy. Bud will not jump on furniture, even if invited and rides great in the car. He may bark for a minute or two when left alone but settles quickly and is happy to nap while you’re away from the house. Bud is currently in foster care with children but due to his size and age, we recommend he go to a home with older kids who recognize that he may love to romp in the yard but he’ll also need quiet time and space to chill. He has met cats and shows friendly, playful energy. He’d likely do well in a home with a dog-savvy cat who isn’t afraid to tell him to back off. He listens to cue’s very well. He has met new dogs since joining the rescue and is overall pretty avoidant. He did well in play groups at the shelter as well. Bud is a big boy, weighing in around 100 lbs. Like all large breed aging dogs, he will need help managing stiffness in his hind-end and joints as he continues to age. He would benefit from glucosamine and omega supplements to keep him feeling good. He has received a veterinary workup and dental cleaning with extractions. Bud initially spent a couple months in a foster home within the city where we found he was stressed from hustle and bustle. We found that he was touchier when stressed which has led him to nip while in situations (like going to the vet or being helped in the car while painful). Since moving to the burbs, Bud is a whole new dog. He’s relaxed, goofy, and just happy to be included in whatever’s going on. We’d love to find him a quiet, low-key home where he can be cherished for the sweet guy that he is! Bud is available for adoption through City of Elderly Love. He is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. He has received a dental cleaning. Interested in adopting Bud?
