My story

Meet Flash! Though she can indeed zoomie as fast as her name implies, Flash is more than happy to relax when that’s the vibe. In fact, her current foster mom describes her as the perfect mix of energy and chill, snuggly and independent. Flash is food motivated, easy to train, playful, and athletic. A fenced yard would make life a little easier, as is true for many young, playful dogs, but if you’re up for a few good walks per day, that should work too. And as a bonus, Flash is great on the leash! Note that she can jump a 4-foot-tall fence, but so far has only done so to reach her foster mom on the other side. Meeting new people is a little scary for Flash, but her foster mom is giving her a lot of practice and has seen incredible improvement in just the 1 week she’s had her. For example, she recently met a neighbor (outside to start) and then happily went on a hike with him. So while this is something Flash will probably need to continue working on for a while, she shows huge promise in learning that new people are safe. Flash loves other dogs, but she does play hard, so her current foster feels she’d do well in a home with another young, playful dog of similar size and enthusiasm. She is socially appropriate and respectful of other dogs and takes corrections from other dogs very well. She does occasionally guard resources—mostly food/bones/chews—from other dogs so is kept separate (e.g., in a crate) during mealtimes and when bones/chews are out. This beauty has not been observed with cats but does find squirrels very exciting. So we recommend a home without cats. Flash is about 1 year old and weighs 48 lbs but should gain a bit more weight. Her breed mix is unknown but we’ll guess some kind of herding dog and some kind of bully breed so, for Adoptapet's breed, we chose malinois and pit bull. She is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, tested negative for heartworms, and has no known health issues. She is completely housetrained and has become more comfortable in the crate in just a few days, even choosing to go in on her own sometimes. Flash was running as a stray for several weeks during the coldest part of the winter. A wonderful human trapped Flash and brought her to the shelter. No one claimed this beauty. The person who trapped her later checked on her and found out that Flash was not doing well at the shelter. So she picked her up to keep her safe. However, this person's home is not a good fit for Flash because she has five senior dogs, two of them tiny and fragile. Only one of her dogs enjoys playing with Flash and the others are stressed by her puppyish antics. (Not what they signed up for during their retirement!) We are helping Flash's current foster/owner find her forever home. A new foster would also be considered. Interested? Please contact us via email (ffocas4pets@gmail.com). We’ll ask you to fill out our rehoming application to keep this process safe for all involved—especially Flash! If interested in fostering or fostering to adopt, we will help you take the next steps for that as well.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Flash -- Courtesy Post, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
