My story

Well hi there - my name's Elanore, but my foster mom calls me Ellie! I’m a sweet little 14yr old, 13lb Chiweenie, with a frosty face and soft brown eyes, who lost her family a while back. I came to RCHS with numerous health problems: I had heartworm disease, multiple tumors and horrible dental disease. After months of treatments and a few surgeries, I’m all fixed up now and ready to live my bestest life!! I’m pretty laid back and love to nap, but then I’m a mature lady who doesn’t care to go crazy or chew things up. Toys, nope, they are for babies; just give me a soft doggie bed and a blanket or towel to cover myself during the day and I’m good! I like to follow foster mom around the house, as I feel safer when I know she is nearby, but otherwise, I’m pretty quiet. I like to sleep on the bed with mom and will cover myself up with a little doggie throw blanket. I just find it comforting to be close to my people. I’m fine with other dogs, except puppies who want to constantly play with me - I just can’t have that! After all, I’m a dignified mature lady! Older dogs who will leave me alone to nap are great, and cats don’t bother me a bit, I’m fine with them - they are usually much too snooty anyway. I don’t really bark, so I accidently learned how to jingle some bells that foster mom had hanging from the door knob, when I want to go outside to potty. Who says you have to be a puppy to learn new tricks!! Occasionally I forget to use the bells, but I will still go to the door. If you ask me if I have to go outside to potty, I will go with you to the door and go outside. Who says you have to be a puppy to learn new tricks!! I’m pretty much finished with all my medical issues, except I’m still recovering for the next few weeks from my big dental (that mean dentist removed all but 8 of my teeth!) and my tongue will often hang out of my mouth. But that’s okay - it’s a cute little pink tongue. I am now a bit messy when I eat or drink, so foster mom put down an absorbent little mat to soak up the water, but never fear, I will “hoover” up any of the food that missed my bowl while I ate! At my age I’m not much of a jumper, so my foster mom bought a couple of foam stairs so I can get up on the couch and the bed at night and it only took me a few minutes to figure them out. I’m kind of smart like that. I’m looking for a quiet family, maybe with someone who is home most of the time, as I do get anxious when left by myself - but don’t worry, I won’t tear things up. I just get a bit scared that you aren’t coming back and I'll bounce all over when you do come back, so you will know how much I missed you. I probably would not do well in a house with little kids; maybe teens would be ok. I'm looking for a family who would understand that I’m an older lady, who no longer 'fetches' or plays with toys like a puppy, but would happily lay by them for pets and a few belly rubs. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please fill out our application here: http://www.rchsks.org/our-animals/adopt-a-pet/adopting-a-dog. By filling out the application you are not committing yourself to adopting; it's a screening process that must be completed before you meet the dog. Please do this BEFORE calling. Our voicemail is only checked periodically and you can reach us much faster via dog-coordinators@rchsks.org. Thank you!

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Elanore, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
