My story

This kitty is a little different than the pets we normally post. He has lived in an overcrowded house for much of his life and has lost his amicable disposition. He's not exactly mean, just grumpy and he will hiss if you try to pick him up or grab him. He is very vocal and will let you know when he wants to be fed. This big boy has a healthy appetite! After staying here for a couple of weeks, he started asking for pets and scratches, and soon let people cautiously approach him as long as they offered a kind hand. We believe someone would like to adopt him who understands his personality. Our vet has advised that he live as a barn cat, though not as a hunter. Perhaps, if he has a catio, he would be very happy. Our wish for him is a quiet life full of cozy bedding and fresh air and sunshine. Medical Note: He was recently discovered to have a heart murmur and the vet has predicted that anyone who adopts him should be accepting that he might suddenly go to sleep. I am not sure how bad the murmur is, so he may have several years left. He came to us after the original owner had passed away and the inheritor did not know details on him. It is possible that the murmur is a result of poor diet, so i plan to put him on a taurine supplement and see if the murmur goes away. One of our ACOs has volunteered to take him as a foster and bring him back for scheduled meetings with potential adopters. While he's not the cuddly and playful kitten many adopters are looking for, he deserves a comfortable life. _____________________________________________________________ All animal adoptions are typically $80. For puppies and kittens under the age of 6 months, adoptions are $100. For dogs, this includes the first series of vaccinations, deworming, spay/neuter, heartworm testing and heartworm preventative. For cats, this includes the first series of vaccinations, deworming, spay/neuter and feline AIDS/leukemia testing. All cats and kittens adopted from the Germantown Animal Shelter are not allowed to be declawed. Any questions should be directed to animalshelter@germantown-tn.gov. Or by calling the shelter at 901-757-7358.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Alfie, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
