My story

All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee. This dog will be at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, April 4th from 12-3 PM unless adopted prior to the event. To be considered for adoption, please submit an application in advance at https://www.dpsrescue.com/adopt/dog-application/. Adoption fee: $700 Horseshoe and Wishbone are two of the “8 in a Crate,” 14-16 week old, 8 lb. Poodle mix puppies who have been fostered together as they’ve begun learning that the world can be safe and kind. Though they have Poodle in their mix, as evidenced by their curly coats, they do shed. What truly defines them, however, is their sweetness, friendliness, and enormous capacity for love.   These two little charmers greet people the way all puppies should—with wagging tails, bright eyes, and tiny kisses delivered with great enthusiasm. While they can be a little sensitive to sudden noises or big movements, their natural instinct is to connect with people and soak up affection. Pick them up and they melt right into you, happily accepting pets, cuddles, and the occasional smooch session.   They are also wonderfully social with other dogs and love meeting canine friends of all shapes and sizes. Big dogs, small dogs, fluffy dogs, scruffy dogs— they’re delighted to make new acquaintances. Their ideal homes will have a resident dog to show them the ropes, but they could be an option for a home that has prior experience with shy dogs and who is committed to continuing their training and socialization.   Horseshoe is usually the first to investigate something new and tends to be slightly more food-motivated - Stella and Chewy's treats are the way to his heart! Wishbone follows close behind with equal sweetness and affection, always happy to join in whatever adventure Horseshoe has already deemed safe. Both puppies are playful; they love tug toys, chew toys (they are very much in their teething phase), and gentle games with their people.   One thing their foster family has discovered is that these two are extremely good sports about dress-up. Sweaters? Fine. Little jackets? No problem. A silly costume or festive bandana? They will politely accept their modeling duties with patience and dignity— though they may request a cookie for their efforts. If you’ve ever dreamed of having a puppy who will tolerate your seasonal photo shoots, one of these two might be your perfect collaborators.   Their daily routine is already quite puppy-polished. They sleep through the night, eat free-choice, drink plenty of water, and are doing very well with potty training. They enjoy exploring outside and sniffing around the yard, but they naturally like to stay close to their people and check back in frequently.   What stands out most about Horseshoe and Wishbone is how deeply affectionate they are. They want to be near their people. They want reassurance, connection, and companionship. With a confident resident dog to guide them and a family committed to kindness and positive structure, each of these puppies will grow into a devoted, loving companion.   They may start out a little sensitive— but with wagging tails, puppy kisses, and a willingness to wear the occasional ridiculous outfit, they’re more than ready to charm their way into someone’s heart.April 2, 2026, 9:12 pm
