My story

Buddy is living in a foster home. Please submit an application from our website and/or email dogs@heartlandanimalshelter.org to learn if you are a match! Scroll through his pictures to see his cute video content! Re-introducing our little guy, Buddy! Buddy is a special guy to us here at Heartland. He originally came to us back in Oct ‘25 from a hoarding situation in Arkansas. He was SO shy and nervous, but had such an irresistible softness to him and he got adopted almost immediately. Buddy bonded fiercely with his family, but we learned that he needs time to accept people outside of his circle. When they needed a caretaker to come in for an elderly family member (that Buddy LOVED!), he struggled with accepting the caretaker into his home and his adopters made the heartbreaking decision to bring him back to Heartland. We have really gotten to know and adore Buddy, and have learned a lot about him during his time with us. He spent about 2 weeks at our shelter getting to know staff and volunteers, before going to a foster home. Buddy bonds hard with the people he accepts into his circle - he LOVES them, he would do anything for them! He is wary of new people, some more than others. He needs slower, controlled introductions to new people and does best with routine and predictability. Therefore, he needs a quiet household without many visitors, probably adults only, and definitely as the only dog. As you can see in his pictures and videos, he does have the ability to socialize with other dogs in controlled environments. However, he can be possessive of his beloved people and shouldn’t live with other dogs. He is doing great with his foster mom, who lives by herself without other animals. He is already house-trained, never has accidents in the home! He is also crate-trained, which will be important for him to have as a safe space if visitors come over that he isn't ready to interact with. Here is what his foster mom has to say about him, “ Buddy is a beautiful young dog who is looking for someone to help him be a happy adult dog. He is so sweet and likes to be near his human. He still acts a bit puppyish and when excited while being petted and played with has yet to learn not to use teeth when playing with people. He likes being brushed and it makes his curly hair shine. He has started venturing onto a closed in porch in the nice weather and seems to enjoy watching the world go by.” If you are interested in an amazing and loyal companion, please reach out about Buddy! Buddy’s adoption fee is $375. This animal is neutered, up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Buddy , please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
