My story

ALL ABOUT ME Name: Cola Age: 2 Years old Gender: Male Spayed/Neutered: Yes Breed: Labrador Retriever mix Colour: Black Weight: 23kg / 50.7lbs Microchipped: Yes   MY RESCUE STORY  Hi there! I’m Cola — a sweet, gentle soul who was rescued from the euthanasia list at a city pound when space ran out. I’m not sure how I ended up there, but I’m so grateful for my second chance. Now, I’m ready to leave the past behind and find my forever family to love and be loved by!    MY HEALTH Fully vaccinated (5-round series complete) I’ve been spayed and have no known health issues.    MY PERSONALITY I got my name because of my beautiful, glossy black coat — just like the color of a coca cola! I’m a typical Labrador Retriever in every way: friendly, social, and full of life. I absolutely love being around people and dogs, and my tail never stops wagging when I’m in good company. Because I’ve been confined to my kennel space at the shelter, I can get very excited when I finally get the chance to stretch my legs and play. Once I’ve had a bit of time to run off that energy, I settle down and become calm, affectionate, and eager to please. I’m a happy-go-lucky boy who truly loves everyone I meet. I sometimes come on a little strong with other dogs simply because I’m so excited to play and make friends, and they can occasionally find my enthusiasm a bit overwhelming. But at heart, I’m just a big, good-natured softie who wants to be loved and included. With regular exercise, a bit of structure, and a family who will guide me with patience and kindness, I’ll shine into the best version of myself — a loyal, affectionate companion ready to bring endless love and joy into your life.   MY SOCIAL SKILLS  With People: I’m a big, friendly boy who absolutely loves everyone I meet! Don’t let my larger size fool you — I’m a total softie at heart. I happily let people pick me up, and once I feel comfortable, I love rolling over to show my belly for some good scratches. I’m full of energy and excitement, especially when I meet new people, so I can get a bit jumpy or pushy in my enthusiasm. With a little guidance and consistent structure, I’ll learn to greet people more calmly — I just can’t help but show how happy I am to see you! I don’t guard my food and am always gentle around mealtime. That said, I love food and toys — they’re two of my favorite things! You’ll often find me carrying a toy proudly in my mouth. I can be a bit reluctant to drop it right away, but with a simple cue from staff or volunteers, I’ll let go easily. I’m a goofy, affectionate, and eager-to-please companion who’s just looking for a home that will help me channel all my happy energy into love, play, and everyday adventures.   With Dogs: I love my dog friends too! Whenever I meet them, I get super excited and sometimes a little too enthusiastic. I can be pushy when I play, and not all dogs appreciate my big, bouncy energy — so I’m still learning how to greet my canine friends calmly and respectfully. I tend to get along best with dogs around my size or smaller, especially those who can match my playful spirit. I don’t guard my food around other dogs, but since I love both food and toys, I’ll benefit from a bit of structured management to help me continue learning polite sharing habits. With gentle guidance, I’ll keep improving my manners and become an even better playmate and companion.   With Cats:  I haven’t had much exposure to cats indoors yet, so my reaction is still unknown. That said, when I see cats during my walks, I mostly just get curious and watch them for a bit. I’m easily redirected by my handler and continue on my way without any trouble.    ENERGY AND ACTIVITIES I have a moderate energy level. I can get a bit excited at first when meeting new people or dogs, but once that initial burst of enthusiasm passes, I settle nicely. I enjoy spending time outdoors, going for walks, and getting some good exercise, but I’m just as happy to relax and snuggle up indoors afterward.   TRAINING & HABITS I’m still learning my leash manners and can get a little excited when something catches my interest, so I might pull sometimes. Overall, I do my best to follow my handler’s lead and walk nicely. I’m a strong boy, so double-leashing me with a collar and a harness — ideally a front-clip harness — makes walks safer and easier to manage. I love to explore outdoors and take my time doing “sniff inspections,” and I’m curious about everything around me. Sometimes my curiosity even leads to a little wall-jumping, so I’ll need a careful set of eyes when I’m outside. I’m generally a quiet boy, though I’ll bark for attention, especially when food is involved. I’m very smart and learn quickly, but I still need guidance in managing my excitement and energy, especially in new environments. I’m also still learning my potty manners, so I need patience and consistency while I master going in the right spot. With gentle guidance, structure, and supervision, I’ll keep improving and become the calm, obedient, and affectionate companion I’m meant to be.   MY IDEAL HOME  I’m looking for a patient, loving family who can help me become the best version of myself. I’ll thrive in a home with: A family that offers a safe, structured, and calm environment. A family that enjoys spending quality time together indoors & outdoors. A family that can shower me with love and attention. A loving family who understands my needs as a Labrador Retriever and is patient and consistent in guiding me so I can stay calm and composed in new environments.    SPECIAL NOTES  I’m looking for a loving family who understands my needs as a Labrador Retriever and is patient and consistent in helping me stay calm and composed in new environments. I’m a really sweet, happy, and affectionate boy, full of love to give, and I can’t wait to begin the next exciting chapter of my life with my forever family — sharing cuddles, adventures, and endless tail wags every single day!   Cola's YouTube Playlist ##2553961##
