My story

Emery / Female / 5 months / 13lbs and growing / Retriever Husky Mix / Good with Dogs / Good with Kids / Good with Cats / Local Intake / Fostered in Thornhill **Follow Emery’s journey on Instagram: @emerytheexplorer Meet Emery! Emery’s foster describes her as playful, curious, and endlessly sweet. She loves tug-of-war, fetch, and zooming around outside, but she’s equally happy to flop over for belly rubs or curl up for snuggles. She’s affectionate, expressive, and quick to bond—her head tilts and puppy cuddles will melt your heart. Emery is affectionate with her trusted people and gentle with respectful children. With strangers, she can be shy at first but warms up quickly once she feels safe. She thrives on closeness and loves being part of her foster’s daily routine. Her ideal home could be a house, townhouse, or condo in a quiet neighbourhood. Emery struggles in busy areas with constant noise, traffic, or crowded hallways. In her foster’s condo, she sometimes plants her feet in the lobby or parking lot and needs to be carried outside. On quieter streets, she does much better—sometimes walking confidently, other times stalling briefly before carrying on. With patience, positive reinforcement, and the guidance of a trainer, she is making progress and recently had several successful walks in calmer environments. Emery is dog-social and respectful with dogs of all sizes. She could thrive in a home with another calm, well-matched pup, or as the only dog. She also does well with cats and has lived peacefully with them in foster care. Her energy level is moderate—she enjoys short walks (ideally in quiet areas) along with enrichment games, puzzle feeders, and yard time. Indoors, she entertains herself with toys and is happy to nap near her people. She is still learning the basics. Emery is crate trained, settling in overnight and for short periods during the day. She is working on house training and making steady progress with regular trips outside. She knows “sit,” responds well to food rewards, and is motivated to learn. Training focus right now includes recall, leash skills, and confidence building. When left alone for up to a few hours in her crate, Emery does well, though she may sneak the occasional sock if given free roam. She settles quickly and sleeps soundly through the night. Emery is a gentle, affectionate pup who has already shown great resilience. She will thrive in a patient, calm home committed to helping her gain confidence, especially with her leash skills in busy environments. In return, she’ll reward her family with loyalty, playfulness, and endless cuddles. If you’re looking for a cuddly, playful, and gentle puppy who will bring joy and laughter to your home, Emery could be the one for you. As a condition of the adoption contract, Emery’s new family will be required to: - Ensure she has an opportunity to go outside every 2-3 hours. If you work full time, this means hiring a dog walker to come in 2x per day for a puppy visit - Attend and complete a basic obedience class at your own cost (proof required). - Provide plenty of socialization opportunities – both dog and human – it's important at this stage. - Spay/neuter at 6 months (October 2025). If done at our partner vet in Mississauga, the spay/neuter will be included in the adoption fee. If you choose to do it elsewhere, it will be done at your own cost. Proof of neuter is required to finalize the adoption. If you’re interested in adopting Emery, please apply at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form Emery’s adoption fee is $900. To learn more about our adoption fees and the adooption process, please visit our FAQs at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/about-us#about-faqs.
