My story

Piper10 years old13 poundsFostered in MebaneAdoption Fee is $200 Short list: sweet and loving to her person, gets along with dogs, could be an only, housetrained, loves to play with toys, slow to accept new people Piper is one of our favorite types of dachshunds in the whole enitre world – sassy red senior girls. And this beauty lives up to the billing. She’s got strong opinions about the world and is’t afraid to share them. In our eyes (and we know Piper thinks the same), she’s the perfect blend of sweet and spicy. She landed in our arms when her own passed away and family was unable to care for her.  This gal had been in pain for a very long time – she had a terrible skin infection, a bladder full of stones and a mouthful of rotten teeth. Over the past few months, as we brought her back to health, we’ve seen her settle down and her personality emerge. Piper is mostly a one person dog, but with some patience will add other people in her inner circle. To her favorite human, she is sweet, snuggly and devoted in a way that only a dachshund can muster. This girl loves hard and is deeply loyal. She wants to be pressed against you as much as possible and her welcome home greeting will make you feel like you are a rockstar – which of course, you are in her eyes. It will likely take a few days during the transition for her to trust so her new family will need to be patient in the beginning. It takes her a bit to trust new people, but she’s gotten much better about it since she’s now longer in constant pain. She picked her foster mom as her ride or die, but her foster dad can now pet her and even pick her up. When new people come over to her foster home, she gives the signature dachshund welcome and then ignores then. She’s not reactive or barky to people or dogs when out and about in public as long as strangers don’t try to pick her up or pet her against her wishes. She would do best in a quieter home without kids under 12. Piper is housetrained and loves to go for car rides – with her person, of course. And at night, she wants you to tuck her in her bed with her blanket, just like a baby.  She gets along with other dogs, young and old, big and small. But she really only has eyes for her person, so she’d be fine as an only. Piper is UTD on shots, had bloodwork, is HW negative. She had an extensive dental and will likely need more dental work in the future. Because of her bladder stones, she needs to stay on urinary friendly food – a big bag will come with her. Her new family should be prepared to drive to her foster home in Mebane, no trasnports. We prefer homes in NC, VA, and SC for Piper. To get the process started, fill out an application at www.doxiebyproxy.org/appliication. Piper has fought hard for her second chance, and now she’s ready to give her whole heart to the person who chooses her. If you’re looking for a fiercely loyal shadow who will adore you, make you laugh with her sass, and snuggle close every night, Piper just might be your girl. She’s not the right match for everyone—but for the right person, she’ll be the best decision you ever make. ##2485465##
