My story

Meet Chai & Ken! This sweet bonded pair (likely siblings but we don't know for sure) have captured all of our hearts, and we know they’ll do the same for you. Believed to be brother and sister, Chai (female) and Ken (male) are just 1 year old and were rescued together from a shelter in New Mexico. From the moment we met them, it was clear that their bond runs deep—they find comfort, confidence, and joy in each other’s company. Chai and Ken are believed to be Dachshund / Chihuahua mixes, although Ken looks more Dachshund and Chai looks more Chihuahua. They are both adorable dogs! Chai is 17 lbs and Ken is 16 lbs. At first, Chai and Ken can be just a touch shy. But don’t let that fool you — the moment they feel safe, their true personalities shine through. Their foster reports that they warmed up almost immediately once they got home, showing how friendly, sweet, and loving they truly are. Together, they make the perfect duo: gentle, playful, and loyal. They enjoy cuddles, exploring the world around them, and of course, spending time side by side. While each of them is wonderful on their own, they truly light up when they’re together, so we’d love to see them find a forever home as a pair. We understand that not everyone is looking to adopt two dogs at one time, but with a bonded pair like Chai and Ken, 2 is truly easier than 1! They have each other to play with, to cuddle, and to occupy. From Chai and Ken's foster: * * * * "They're doing very well! They're getting more comfortable each day and starting to play! They eat well and love to snuggle with each other... it's really cute! They will also snuggle with us and Ken really likes to give me kisses! They seem potty trained - they had one accident on the first day, but have been consistently going outside since then. The first night they slept in one crate together, but now we're having one of them sleep with me at night and the other sleep with my roommate. We just wanted to make sure they don't freak out if separated, and they don't! They do love each other but they also do good sleeping separately and have a sweet reunion in the mornings. When they are together, they are definitely attached at the hip! They like to play and cuddle together and pretty much do it all side by side!" * * * * Farfel's Rescue rescue partners would love to see Chai & Ken in a home with an individual, family (older kids are preferred so there's no tail-pulling or awkward handling) or active retirees who have the time and love for a very loyal and sweet dog. We'd hate to see them left alone all day while their family works full-time outside of the home, as they are much too social for that type of arrangement. We'd like to place this sweet pair in a home where they'll get consistent stimulation, exercise and love. A (virtual or in-person) positive reinforcement group training class promotes great behavior, bonding and confidence for these young guys. Training is so important in the future behaviors of every dog. It's for this reason that we're unwilling to adopt to a family that doesn't make this loving choice. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of both in-person and virtual positive reinforcement / force- free trainers in your area. Chai & Ken have been fully vetted, are in great health, up to date on their vaccines, and neutered. Farfel's Rescue is a fully foster based rescue, and offers a one week trial with every adoption. We feel that this is much more beneficial to not only the dog, but the adopter too. We believe that only getting 20-30 minutes with a dog before deciding on a lifetime commitment is not a fair amount of time to the adopter, or the dog. Therefore we give adopters one week with the dog to assure it is the right fit, and offer a full refund of their adoption fee should it not workout within the week trial. Farfel's Rescue has been doing adoptions this way since 2005 and is thrilled to adopt out ~400 dogs each year. If you are interested in adopting from us, please be sure to fill out our adoption application at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/ . **PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting from us, please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Chai & Ken, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
