My story

    Hi I’m Poe, but despite my namesake, there’s nothing mysterious or dreadful about me! On the contrary, I am as bright and cheerful as a soul can be! I’m a youthful 2 years old, and although how I spent those first 2 years is a mystery, the last month or two are less so. I was found abandoned in a home after the owners left. I haven’t really been able to tell anyone how long I was there by myself, but I was a little skinny if that’s any clue. Next, I was taken to a loud and scary shelter, but the caring people there fed me well so after several weeks there, I got back to a healthy 43 pounds. They also searched for a rescue to help me, so I eventually got sprung to the love of a foster home.    I’ve been through a lot, so I’m understandably a little anxious. I get very excited when I see my foster mom and I want stick by her like glue. In fact, my favorite way to greet someone is by jumping on them, but my foster mom has taught me to sit, and I’m learning to stay, so I’m quickly learning to sit for love and attention instead of jumping up to grab it! Still my legs sometimes have a mind of their own and they spring into action. So I’m probably not the best dog to be around small kids at this stage of the game because there’s a good chance I’d knock one down.    I do settle down nicely once I have been reassured with a little love and attention. I’m also calm and quiet in a crate, and don’t have accidents in the house as long as I am let out regularly to do my business. I’m learning to walk nicely on a leash, am friendly and want to play with other dogs, and excited by but friendly, towards cats. Best of all I’m as sweet, social, playful, and affectionate as they come.    If you are interested in adopting me, I’ll need you to understand that I’ll need time to feel secure, and training to not let my excitement get the best of me.
