My story

Chocolate is a 2-year-old female German Shepherd cross who urgently needs a stable, loving home. Her owner has had her from a puppy but has now decided not to keep her and has approached us to find her a home. Unfortunately, she has been passed from home to home due to the owner's poor decisions, which has deeply affected her. Full transparency, Chocolate is currently being kept most times in a cage in the basement of the owners home she is in right now. She is rarely interacting with the house she's in and never gets to play with other dogs or goes for walks. Our organization has been supporting for her to have proper training lessons with the owner, to show that she is full of potential and love and to help her be social and ready for a permanent safe home. Due to the unstable environment that she has lived, Chocolate has developed severe separation anxiety and may cause damage if left alone. We’re looking for someone experienced with dogs, with no other pets, and who can be with her most of the time to help her regain trust and stability, to help her decompress and gain her sense of security, safety. She will be protective with the humans and must be in a home with an experienced dog owner. Chocolate is not human aggressive. We have spent time with Chocolate and she completely attached—following everywhere to whomever she hopes can take care of her. On a walk, Chocolate responded beautifully to praise and began listening to her directions. She does have social issues with some other dogs but we feel this is a matter of her learning, with the right person/people, that she is safe and no need to be anxious any longer. She is not an 'aggressive' girl, she has anxiety and is confused, more than anything, and needs a stable home ground to land permanently. Chocolate is smart, loyal, and eager to please—she just needs the right person to show her consistency and love. Please, if you or someone you know can help, reach out. Chocolate deserves a second chance at a forever home where she can truly thrive. If you think you could be the right fit for this sweet girl, please reach out to us through our website — we can’t wait to meet you!

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Chocolate, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
