My story

***LOCAL ADOPTER NEEDED (within 50 miles of Apex, NC)! This dog needs to complete his heartworm treatment at our partner vet in Apex!*** Introducing Happy Gilmore, a lovable seven-year-old lab mix with a heart as big as his namesake! Despite having a rough life before coming to PLR, he’s always wagging his tail and ready to share his endless joy with the people around him. Happy’s favorite hobbies include hopping up into his favorite chair, rolling on the floor for a good back scratch, and soaking up as many belly rubs as you’re willing to give. He’s a gentle soul who loves children and does wonderfully around other dogs—though he’s more into keeping you company than romping around or playing fetch. He’s happiest just being near his people, whether that’s hanging out at home, going for a walk (he gets so excited when the leash comes out!), or joining you for a ride in the car. Happy finds comfort in his crate, even pawing at the closed door or borrowing his foster sister’s much smaller crate, so his new family must be willing to continue offering him his safe space. Happy is looking for a family who will appreciate his sweet, steady, and loving nature. If you’re searching for a loyal companion who will bring you nothing but joy, look no further—Happy can’t wait to wag his way into your heart! Medical notes: Happy arrived to PLR Heartworm Positive and battling some pretty painful skin issues. PLR has already started his HW treatment and will cover the expenses to see this treatment through. His adopter will need to bring him to one of PLR’s vets in Apex for a day-long treatment. With regards to his skin, most of Happy’s hair is growing back in but he continues to have some more stubborn sores/spots that will require his new adopter to continue providing him routine baths with medicated shampoo. Although Happy requires a tiny bit of additional care, he will gladly repay you by making every day brighter for you!
