My story

Meet Shawn O’ From a puppy mill  This 10-month-old shih tzu mix (12 lbs) is hoping the luck of the Irish will finally leads him to his forever home. With his striking red coat and sweet personality, Shawn is a lovable little fellow who just wants a family to call his own. Shawn is making steady progress with housetraining and is now neutered which should help even more. He enjoys spending time outside in the yard—especially if his people are there with him. Leash walking is still a work in progress, as the big world feels overwhelming after growing up in a cage, but with patience and gentle encouragement he’ll learn to feel safe. Shawn gets along well with other dogs and would thrive in a home with a calm, playful, and well-trained canine buddy to help show him the ropes. He doesn’t like being crated, but he now sleeps peacefully in the hallway alongside the family dogs—quiet through the night for up to 9 hours. He’s discovering the joy of toys—learning to play with squeaky stuffies, tug-of-war, and spending hours happily chewing on a smoked bone (preferably in a little safe space just for him). Car rides make him anxious, but he’s trying hard and improving with every trip. Shawn loves people and wants to be around them as much as possible. He’s not a fan of being left alone, though he settles well in the back room with the other dogs for a few hours. Because Shawn is not fully housetrained and because he is now finding his voice when visitors arrive, he is not suitable for apartment living.  If you’re looking for a loyal, loving companion who’s eager to learn and give his whole heart, Shawn O’ may be the treasure at the end of your rainbow.    August 30, 2025, 1:03 pm
