My story

Left Eye, who her fosters call Ellie, is a sweet little pitty mix looking for her happily ever after! Ellie had a hard start in life – she was rescued from a neglect/abuse situation back in June. She was emaciated at just 23 pounds when she arrived at a local animal control. After 2 months with her fosters, she has gone from skin and bones to a healthy 40 pounds at her ideal weight. Ellie is quite literally the most affectionate dog we’ve ever known – she loves nothing more than to snuggle up with you for love and cuddles. You would never know she was treated unkindly by people in the past as she is incredibly trusting of humans and wants to be near you. She has done well meeting people of all types. Ellie is dog friendly but needs specific boundaries with doggy friends to set her up for success. She does well individually with a wide variety of dogs but has trouble understanding when groups of dogs are playing vs fighting so she should be in a home with either just one other dog or as the only dog. In her foster home, her best dog friend is a Great Dane who doesn’t really play. Ellie and the Great Dane just hang out all day near each other. Ellie has done well playing with other dogs in her foster home individually but should have slow intros with any other dogs regardless. She would not be able to handle dog parks or multiple dogs together at once. In her temp foster home, Ellie has shown too much interest in the cats and therefore should not live in a home with cats. Because Ellie lived with food scarcity for so long, she gets overly excited about any type of food. For this reason, a home with young kids with food potentially at her level would not be ideal. She would do well with older kids who can understand her needs. She will need to eat separately from any other dog in the home to prevent food resource guarding. Ellie loves stuffies of all kinds – she is a stuffy destroyer and tearing apart dog toys is one of her favorite things ever. This is another reason that a home with young kids would not be ideal as she would not be able to differentiate between a dog stuffy and kid stuffy. 😊 Ellie is potty trained although a few accidents in a new home should be expected at first. Ellie walks well on a leash – she will occasionally pull if she sees other people/dogs but she is not reactive to them and she is not very big so is relatively easy to manage on a walk. Ellie really wants to please and is food motivated which will be helpful for training. Ellie is crate trained and sleeps all night in her crate without a peep. She has slept in the bed at her temp foster home and done great with that as well. Ellie also does great in her crate when we need to leave during the day. We leave her with a benebone and she is content and doesn’t bark in her crate. She will bark if she sees people/dogs outside the windows so shared walls may not be ideal. Ellie also travels well in the car. All CSHS pups are spayed/neutered, up to date on age-appropriate vaccines, 4DX negative (if older than 6 months), dewormed and microchipped.
