My story

Meet Maura (or Maya) Higgins from the Love Island transport from Mississippi!  She is going to be a fantastic pet for a lucky family.  Here are my notes about her: Potty training: She is well on her way toward being housebroken.  She cries when she needs to go pee/poo while in her playpen and when taken outside she finishes her business quickly.  When she arrived she didn't really care about positive reinforcement via treats but relished in getting pets after doing her business, and we've continued this. Crate Training: She loves her crate and associates it with a place of safety and rest.  We have her in a play pen when we can't monitor her, and we usually find her sleeping in her crate there. She is comforted by our pet Schnoodle and sleeps through the night with him in the playpen. We drove to Cape May NJ and Philly this week and she slept for the entire ride in her crate (only cries if she needed a potty break).  Personality/behavior/socialization: Maura/Maya Higgins is 100% puppy.  She is playful, observant, curious, snuggly, smart and stubborn.  Currently, she is learning how to play tug-of-war and loves figuring out a good food-puzzle.  If you climb in her playpen she will climb into your lap to sleep OR she will look for something to chew (but is easily redirected by offering her a chew stick or by yelping and she will quickly stop).  She loves people and our Schnoodle (even though he is quite the grumpy old man).  She was the talk of the little town in Cape May when we pulled her around in our wagon.  She is VERY well socialized with a wide variety of people and has been exposed to all sorts of loud and strange sounds and smells (Philly provided all of those exposures).  She is also quite brave and quickly taught herself how to climb up our deck and front door steps (she's still working on going down).  How does her stubborness come out? As of now, she doesn't "leash".  If she feels the "leash god" is pulling her in any way she will suddenly turn into an immovable 8lb rock.  She will only walk if she thinks it was her idea.  The upside is if you're looking to lose weight, she'd love to help you with that.  Its awkard to walk your neighborhood with weights in your hands, or to wear a weighted jacket, why not hold a cute furry puppy instead?  Joking aside, this area will require more training. ** She will be spayed next Tuesday by WTAR. Adoption Day: September 13th at PetSmart Tysons Corner from 10:00–11:00 AM, an approved adopter must be present to adopt.  Some pups may stick around until 11:00 AM for the public event—check our Facebook page closer to the date to see if this pup will be attending the extra fun! ##2502460##

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Maura Maya Higgins, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
