We at PDR believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. This perfectly sized, absolutely adorable, cuddly, adventure buddy weighs in at just shy of 20 lbs. Her small size is perfect for your lap, next to you on the patio, or in the rear passenger seat heading out on a road trip. Wherever you are, that's where she wants to be! Triscuit was an unclaimed stray in a rural pound. We don’t know her history, but her body tells a story of having litters of puppies in her short life. She is wonderful with the dogs living in her foster home, and you really see those mothering instincts come out occasionally. She can be very nurturing with them and also tell them when they need to simmer down a bit and mind their manners. Triscuit has been fostered with a well-established pack and has flourished. She would be very happy with a playful friend close in size, as she does have prey-drive for small, furry animals as is true to her breed mix. She would also be equally as happy as a single dog in an active environment. Triscuit's ideal home should have a yard to play and fetch or a safe enclosed space near by. She craves someone who will take her out to explore all the world has to offer as a curious and fun-loving girl. She benefits from walks to new environments and to explore around. Learning how to leash walk and rein-in the excitement of everything new is something she is working on, but she takes to training incredibly well. She is incredibly smart and learns quickly! Triscuit’s most endearing habits are her love for a cuddle, a burrow in the blankets, and her love for fetch. Upon arriving at her foster home her first desire was to hop into the lap of one of her foster parents and nuzzle into her neck for a cuddle. It was amazing to see how quickly she settled in as if she had always been there. She is a social butterfly and has had the opportunity to meet new people, not showing any shyness and being happy to engage anyone in play. Triscuit sheds mildly and is one of the most incredibly patient and accepting dogs when visiting the vet or groomer. She has to have a bath, a good brushing and get her nails trimmed? No biggie. Full body exam at the vet including the ever so popular ‘temperature check’? No problem, she just laid down on the table and let the team do what needed to be done without a moment of aggression or anxiety. Our vet team loved her! Triscuit is fully house trained and is currently crated during most workdays and does amazingly well. Aside from the occasional whimper when she needs to go outside, you hardly hear from her. Triscuit currently eats her meals in her crate and is happy to eat, sleep, and play just about anywhere. Triscuit has been spayed and is up to date on all shots. Although she arrived with some gastro distress and needed for treatment Coccidia, this has been resolved, and she has no health concerns. Her family will just want to keep an eye on not switching up foods too quickly for her and to introduce new, healthy treats in moderation. Her teeth, eyes, and ears are very healthy and as she ages, standard dental care and cleaning will be required. Triscuit does have one wonky toe that it appears she was likely born with, but it poses no issues for her whatsoever. Triscuit shows no signs of any aggression or hesitance to people however she has not been exposed to young children. She is working on not jumping up to say hi to people or for play, and although this is not hard to manage as an adult, she could easily knock over a smaller child unintentionally. As such, we feel it’s best for Triscuit to be in a home with kids that are old enough to know how to respectfully interact with dogs (10+) and can help her train out of this behaviour. When you return home, Triscuit has been known to welcome you with her song of resounding joy when you arrive back from a little time away and quiets as soon as she is able to greet you out of her crate with excited smiles for a pet and a kiss. In an attached living situation, this could irritate neighbours so that should be considered when submitting an application for her. Triscuit hasn't had any formal obedience training, however since being in her foster home she executes “sit”, “stay” for short periods, “down”, “come” and “hurry, hurry”. She adores being called a good girl and hearing “Yes!”, her tail just does not stop wagging! Triscuit really wants to please you so she can have more fun with you and she LOVES learning. This dog has the potential to learn agility, frisbee work, trick training, etc. Focus in the foster home has been to settle in and establish routines; leash work, basic obedience and toy etiquette. This is a dog with a wonderful spirit that is up for adventure and exploration. Her ideal home is going to be active, even outdoorsy, who will love hiking with her, taking her to new green spaces, potentially go camping, canoeing, boating and on road trips. Does she require you to do all of those things? No. But we want to express that this dog is up for trying anything as long as she is with you and she is not a homebody kind of dog. She is very good at relaxing for down time, is happy to cuddle up and watch a movie with you, but she is a dog that needs daily activity to keep her brain, body and spirit happy. She wants nothing more than to be someone’s sidekick, to do all of life with them, who will include her in their life as much as possible. Triscuit’s love of life is contagious, and you can’t help but to have your spirits lifted with her around. We welcome you to meet and fall in love with this perfect adventure buddy, Triscuit!
