My story

What my friends at OHS say about me:I've been hanging out with my friends at OHS for about seven months now. I came from a special rescue case, where I didn't know much about life or how to be a companion dog. The amazing staff and volunteers have spent countless hours with me; teaching me how to wear a collar, to walk on a leash, what it means to sleep in a cozy bed and to be a human's best friend.I'm very shy and fearful at first, but once I get to know you, I am very affectionate and playful and an all-around good time.I don't like being scared, so I'm pretty good at avoiding the things that make me uncomfortable. If something does startle me, I will show off my impressive vertical leap and make a run for it. Introducing me to novelty very slowly will help us both win this race - safely. You know the saying, "the best way to a man's heart is through his stomach?" I'm no different; I love food. I'm also a social eater, so pick a predictable feeding corner, and I'll be a happy guy. I'm also content with a long-lasting chewy to occupy my time.My DNA predisposes me to being incredibly loyal to one or two people at best. This means I might come across as intimidating to people I don't know. I need a human who is able and willing to keep me safe, continue to show me the ropes and set clear expectations and boundaries so I can be my best self.Click here to learn more about my breed. The type of home I require:I need to go to an adult only home.I need a home without cats or other small animals. No apartments or busy downtown dwellings. I must go to a home with a fully fenced in yard.I must be the only dog in the home.To learn more about my specific needs, please read my What to Expect handout. My adoption process:Because I require such a specific and unique home, OHS has created a more in-depth adoption questionnaire, which can be accessed via the "Meet Me" button at the top of the profile.Once your questionnaire is reviewed, you will receive an email with a link to schedule a phone consultation. After your phone consultation, if both parties feel the I'm a good match, your adoption counselor will schedule an in-person meet and greet. You will meet me with my volunteer and staff handlers. If you fall in love, we'll be sent home together the very same day! Primary Color: Red Secondary Color: White Weight: 109 Age: 2yrs 7mths 1wks
