My story

Yams came to ACCT Philly on 8/9/25 after being picked up as a stray. The caller who found her reported she may have recently had puppies. Despite the stressful circumstances, Yams has remained friendly and gentle with everyone she’s met. She’s still adjusting to the shelter environment but has shown a sweet, affectionate nature and a willingness to trust. In her short time here, Yams has already made friends with staff and volunteers. She loves baby talk, will happily melt into your arms for snuggles, and prefers affection over treats or toys. She’s a little shy in new situations but warms up quickly with patience. Yams also seems interested in other dogs, greeting them softly through a fence. Videos: Playgroup 8/12: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLcnvoGYrJkIYEsgw1TltTiyikvBVnSGFi Behavioral Notes: Per volunteer 8/11: Yams is a sweet little mama. She still seems to be adjusting to her new surroundings and is a little startled by sounds. She’s easy to handle and a little shy, so she does better if you let her take her time. No issues coming out or going back into her kennel. 08/10/2025 Behavioral Eval: Kennel Presentation: Yams was nervous in her crated, curled up in a ball with neutral eyes. she came forward with her head lowered and soft eyes. she allowed me to overhead leash her slowly Leash Skills: pulls minimally Sociability: yams had a low tail wit soft eyes and she walked the yard. once i sat down on the bench she came crawling over. she loves baby talk and melts into your arms. she allowed all handling from me and preferred affection over treat sand toys. Play:n/a Dog Interaction: she saw a dog through the fence and walked up slowly. she had low wags and perked ears Return to Kennel: she needed some leash pressure to return (her crate is a bit small for her) Color Level:gold 08/09/2025 - per staff: dog barking but seems friendly, no aggression shown as dog was leashed and put on truck Medical Notes 08/11/2025 Vet Exam: Vet Exam Exam Reason: General Medical Concern/Other Reason Notes: P shows signs of recent pregnancy/birth, brownish/b black discharge from vagina Subjective: BAR. Friendly, allowed all handling, skittish on table. Objective: Enlarged mammary tissue, WNL on palpation, abrasion on lateral L M2. Uterus mildly distended with fluid, no fetus or membranes retained.
