My story

** FAITH'S ADOPTION FEE IS SPONSORED ** Faith / Female / 4 years old / 51 pounds / Dalmatian Mix / Deaf Sweetheart / Dog Selective / No Cats / Older Kids Only (13+) / Medium Energy / Fostered in Toronto / From Tennessee Faith is a gentle, soulful pup with a heart full of love and resilience. After being abandoned and tied up alongside three other dogs when her previous owners moved away, she made the journey from Tennessee to Toronto, where she’s now thriving in foster care while she waits for her perfect match. Born deaf, Faith sees the world a little differently—but that hasn’t stopped her from building deep bonds with those she trusts. Once she feels safe, she leans in for cuddles, belly rubs, and her absolute favourite: chin scratches. She’s affectionate, incredibly smart, and a joy to have in the home. Faith is fully house-trained, crate-trained, and quiet when left alone. She sleeps soundly in her crate and happily follows her people around the house, always wanting to be nearby. She’s learning hand signals, knows how to sit, and is working on stay and recall using visual cues. She absolutely lights up for treats, spins with excitement, and is very food motivated—making her a fantastic student for continued training. She’s also learning to enjoy games like tug, and playful routines that alternate between excitement and calm have been helping her regulate her energy. Her favourite things include sniffing on walks, tossing toys, and flopping over for love. While Faith is thriving in many areas, she continues to work on her reactivity. She can be fearful of strangers—especially if they approach directly or make eye contact—and is sensitive to oncoming dogs, bikes, scooters, and especially children. She may bark or lunge in these situations, and walks need to be slow, structured, and mindful of space. That said, she’s made great progress with support and consistency. She recently attended a public event and did well with both people and dogs in a controlled setting. With trusted neighbours and their dogs, she can walk calmly, and her foster is seeing continued improvement with pre-walk play, structured focus games, and carefully managed social exposure. Faith is not reactive in the home. She doesn’t resource guard her food or toys and gets along well with familiar dogs when given the right introductions and the space to settle emotionally. During training with treats, she may need some space if another dog is nearby to avoid any tension over food. She’s shown no issues with cats and is more curious than reactive around birds, squirrels, and even raccoons. Faith is looking for a quiet, adult-only home with a calm and patient guardian who understands the needs of a dog working through fear-based reactivity. Her ideal family will be committed to continuing her training with positive reinforcement, hand signals, and structure. A home with a yard would be a plus, but she could do well in an apartment or condo with proper exercise and decompression. She likely wouldn’t enjoy a busy city lifestyle and would do best in a peaceful environment with predictable routines and limited exposure to children or fast-moving stimuli. Though she has her challenges, Faith is full of heart. She’s incredibly affectionate, smart, and devoted once she bonds with someone. With time, patience, and the right support, Faith will be an incredibly loyal companion—and a deeply rewarding addition to the right home.
