My story

Meet Sparkler! Born April 14, 2025, this tiny Chihuahua/Rat Terrier mix has already proven she’s a true survivor. Sparkler came to us from Texas and bravely battled both kennel cough and parvo — and she beat them both! Now happy, healthy, and full of energy, she’s ready to light up her forever home. Sparkler is a spirited, playful puppy who isn’t expected to grow too large, so she’ll likely remain the perfect lap dog size. She’s still working on her training, but she’s learning potty pad use and getting the hang of leash walking. Her love of food makes her an eager student and a quick learner. She adores people of all ages and gets along well with other dogs. She hasn’t met a cat yet, so her feline compatibility is still a mystery. Sparkler is known for her enthusiastic greetings — sometimes climbing up to your shoulders for extra-close affection — so her future family should be ready for lots of face-to-face love! Up to date on all age-appropriate vaccines, Sparkler is ready for a family who will continue her training, keep her active, and give her all the snuggles she craves. If you’re looking for a small dog with a big personality and an even bigger heart, Sparkler is your girl! Our standard adoption fee is $375 if paid by cash or check, or $385 if paid by credit card (which includes a $10 processing fee). This fee covers spay/neuter surgery when age appropriate at one of our participating veterinarians, age-appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative, and microchipping. In order to be considered for adoption, we require a fully completed application, a phone interview, and a meet-and-greet with your entire family. Please note that submitting an application does not commit you to adopting and does not guarantee approval—it simply allows us to begin the review process. Safe Haven Dog Rescue reserves the right to refuse the adoption of any dog or puppy to any applicant for any reason.
