My story

Meet Mojave — the social butterfly you didn’t know you needed but now absolutely can’t live without. Mojave is the canine equivalent of that coworker who shows up to every meeting whether invited or not—and somehow makes it better just by being there. Whether it’s a backyard bash, a Netflix binge, or a group nap that wasn’t officially sanctioned, Mojave is in it. Mojave is a 4-month-old, 24lb Great Pyrenees mix and certified off-road adventure pup. Named after a Jeep model and fully committed to living life in four-paw drive, Mojave is the kind of dog who believes every situation is better when he’s in the middle of it.He rolled into rescue alongside his brothers CJ and Gladiator (yes, Jeep fans, you're welcome), and was just settling into the good life when parvo slammed on the brakes. But Mojave doesn’t quit. He fought through like a tiny, fluffy tank and came out the other side stronger. Mojave is that dog at the party who has to meet everyone the second they walk in — tail wagging, eyes sparkling, and whining like he’s waited his whole life just for you. He’s always the first to greet new dogs and is genuinely thrilled to make new friends. Thankfully, he’s got good social instincts and backs off the moment another dog gives him the “easy, buddy” look. Cats? He hasn’t officially met any yet, but judging by how he approaches life, we’re guessing he’d be curious, maybe a little bouncy, and completely mystified when the cat isn’t impressed by his charm. Not aggressive — just adorably clueless as to why they don't want to be friends. As for kids, he hasn’t had much hands-on experience, but he doesn’t puppy bite his people and is quick to respond to gentle redirection. He’ll likely cover a child in kisses, try to climb into their lap (regardless of size), and might throw in a little excited hop just to make sure everyone knows how thrilled he is. He’s a joyful greeter, but a respectful one with a little guidance. When it comes to strangers, Mojave might take a beat. He was the most timid of his siblings and needed a few days before he trusted his foster family. But once he realized he was safe and loved? Oh, it was game over. After returning home from the hospital, he ran up like they were his long-lost people — tail wagging, body wiggling, heart full. He may start off shy, but once you earn his trust, you’ll have the sweetest, most loyal little shadow you could ever hope for. Mojave’s energy level is a solid 8/10 — think baby goat meets curious fox cub. He’s got a zest for life that’s just waiting to fully kick in once he feels safe and settled. Right now, he’s still figuring out the world, but the second he trusts you, you can practically see the adventure gears start turning in his head. He’s the kind of pup who’ll one day be your hiking buddy, your backyard explorer, and your flashlight-chasing partner during late-night bug patrol. Mojave loves his people and his dog friends, and while he might hang back at first, it doesn’t take long before he’s seeking out cuddles, tail wagging like a metronome set to “pure joy.” There’s a quiet sweetness about him, the kind that makes you want to scoop him up and tell him everything’s going to be okay — and he’ll believe you. His favorite activity? Chasing bugs. Yes, really. While some dogs chase balls or squirrels, Mojave has chosen the noble path of late-night entomologist. He takes his job very seriously, darting around the yard after moths like he’s training for the Puppy Olympics. He also loves toys and is just beginning to discover how fun life can be when you’re surrounded by love, freedom, and squeaky things. Mojave isn’t cut out for apartment living — not because he’s wild, but because he needs room to move, grow, and build his confidence. A securely fenced yard gives him the space to stretch his legs and find his groove without feeling overwhelmed. Give him a little time, a little patience, and a lot of love, and he’ll return it tenfold in tail wags, nose boops, and loyal companionship. Now, let’s talk fine print — because while Mojave is an absolute gem, he is still a puppy, which means he comes with that “some assembly required” sticker. Think of it like adopting a slightly confused marshmallow with legs: he's soft, sweet, and occasionally has no idea what he's doing. Socialization? Yep. He’ll need to meet new people, new dogs, and probably a few weird-looking lawn decorations so he can learn not everything is secretly a threat. Training? Also yes. He’s not writing sonnets or solving puzzles yet, so you’ll need to teach him the basics — sit, stay, and that mysterious concept called “come here” that puppies pretend not to hear. He’s eager to please, just not always sure what you want. Potty training? We're working on it. Puppy-proofing? Non-negotiable. He doesn’t have a degree in destruction, but he is curious and has no idea your laptop charger isn’t a snack. Put away anything you’d rather not see carried triumphantly through the yard or drooled on like a prized treasure. Now, if your soul is screaming, “Yes, I need this bug-chasing goober in my life!” — first of all, correct. Second, you’ll need to fill out an adoption app at https://www.pyrpawsandfluffytailsrescue.com/adoption-app so we can send it to his foster family, who are currently busy acting as his emotional support humans. And yes — you’ll need to go to McAlester, Oklahoma to pick him up. That’s right. No teleporting, no air-dropping puppies via drone. Real car. Real road trip. But hey, what’s a few hours of drive time when it ends with your very own fluffy adventure buddy riding shotgun. Go on. You know you want him.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Mojave, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
