**Seeking Hospice Placement** Meet Ernie!Ernie is a sweet 10-year-old Cocker Spaniel mix who came to Rescue330 after his owner entered hospice care. This gentle senior is dog-friendly and enjoys sunbathing in the yard, sniffing around at his own pace, and simply being near his people. While he's not interested in toys or play, Ernie will sometimes tug excitedly on his leash when he’s ready to explore! Ernie came to us with fleas and some incontinence issues. He was treated for a UTI, and testing revealed crystals that have since cleared after medication and a switch to urinary care food. He was also started on Rimadyl for arthritis, which has helped his comfort and mobility. During his vet visits, it was determined that Ernie’s rectal muscles don’t function as they should, likely due to nerve issues. This means he may try to have a bowel movement outside, but stool can also pass when he’s relaxed in his bed or when he’s excited. The good news is that the stool has been firm and easy to clean up. Despite completing treatment for his UTI, Ernie continued to have occasional urinary leakage, especially after trying to go outside. His vet noted possible incomplete bladder emptying, likely related to his rectal issues and muscle atrophy. A neurology consult confirmed that nerves in his lower spine are likely contributing to both bowel and urinary incontinence. The neurologist also mentioned early signs of canine cognitive dysfunction (dementia), which explains some of Ernie’s anxious pacing, whining, and occasional barking at nothing in particular. Thankfully, Ernie isn’t in pain and continues to enjoy life at a slower, senior dog pace. He currently eats a mix of wet and dry urinary care food (he definitely prefers the wet!), and takes Rimadyl twice daily along with Trazodone and Gabapentin as needed to manage his anxiety. His foster family is working to find the right balance to keep him comfortable and calm without being overly sedated. We are looking for a loving, patient home for Ernie to enjoy his golden years. While we can’t predict how quickly his dementia may progress, we are committed to supporting him for the rest of his days. Rescue330 is happy to assist with the cost of his food and medications to ensure Ernie has everything he needs. If you have a quiet home and a heart big enough to love a dog like Ernie, please consider giving this special boy the care and comfort he deserves. Ernie is up-to-date on vaccinations, neutered, and current on heartworm and flea prevention. Applications are online at www.rescue330.org. ##2450191##
