My story

Introducing Darcy! Darcy is an Australian Cattle Dog/Border Collie-cross between 3 and 4 months old. Her smooth, heeler coat means that she will be easy to groom and will stay cooler in the hot summer months than other breeds. Darcy is presently being fostered on acreage in Bend, Oregon, where she is getting exposed to the varied activities of ranch life. Like most every puppy this age, Darcy loves to romp and play, especially when her foster Dad is out moving the irrigation sprinklers each day. She has also been exposed to seeing and hearing the tractor, lawnmower, and pickups, as well as a big thunderstorm! Darcy has been around horses. She gets to barking at those big, strange-looking critters. But she is getting used to them and her alarms have been slowly subsiding. Like most other heelers on the planet, some day she might take to boldly chasing them across the pasture. With the weather being so nice in central Oregon she spends most of the day outside but comes in at night and sleeps in her wire crate. Housebreaking is still a work in progress, but she is getting better every day. Darcy has a pretty good recall—when not super-absorbed in something, like running after a horse or the cat. Darcy is likely to develop a stronger bond with her person than her brother. Darcy is very treat-motivated, which will be very helpful for training. She knows nothing of fetch at this point, but is taking some pointers from her big housemate, "Poppy." Occasionally, she will pick up a ball and play keep away. Be advised: Darcy is not going to be a couch potato. Expect her to need to blow off steam several times a day. Simply taking her for a walk after work and going camping now and then will not cut it. If you ignore her need to expend energy and you will suffer the consequences. A bored, neurotic heeler is NO FUN!!! And often very destructive. By middle age she will start to slow down some and allow you to slack off a bit. Farms, ranches, large acreages, agility homes, horseback homes, cattle work, search and rescue, and other situations where she can thrive to her best potential will be best for her physical and mental health. We expect Darcy to be an "average-sized" heeler, topping out between 40 and 60 pounds by middle-age. Darcy is up to date on her vaccinations and has been wormed and microchipped. Her adoption fee is $400. If you are interested in adopting Darcy and are pre-approved, please contact the adoption team at hunahapps@gmail.com. If you are not already approved, you can fill out an application here: http://herduneededahome.com/adopt-a-dog

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Darcy, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
